TDK Mediactive has announced that it has reached a long-term agreement with DC Comics to develop and publish games based on the Aquaman character. The agreement gives TDK the rights to release games based on the water-based superhero on multiple next-generation platforms. Although specific consoles were not announced, consumers can expect to see the first Aquaman-based games in 2002.

"This legendary hero from DC Comics presents an exceptional opportunity for us,'' said Vincent Bitetti, chief executive officer of TDK Mediactive. "Aquaman's epic adventures are an ideal subject to showcase the exciting graphic capabilities of next-generation platforms. We are delighted to bring the King of Atlantis to life in a whole new way for his loyal fan base.''

"The next-generation video game platforms have finally made it possible to produce the kind of epic undersea games we have always envisioned,'' said Dorothy Crouch, vice president of licensed publishing at DC Comics. "We have seen that TDK has unique expertise in creating video games with the kind of movements and effects necessary for an Aquaman game.''

GameSpot will have more on Aquaman's foray into the realm of video games as further information becomes available.
