Filming has wrapped on Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom, director James Wan has announced. The final day of filming took place this week in Malibu, and Wan marked the occasion by sharing a photo of stars Jason Momoa and Patrick Wilson.

"A THOUSAND THANK YOUs to all the incredible crew who worked so hard and tirelessly on this picture," Wan said. The director also confirmed that 95% of the movie was filmed in the UK.

"Truly some of the finest artisans and craftspeople I've had the good fortune to work with. And big shout-outs to the amazing Hawaiian and Los Angeles units," Wan added.

The director went on to say that just because filming has wrapped on the Aquaman sequel doesn't mean the movie is ready to go. "I have a very long way to go before it will be ready, but I can't wait to share this little film with you all," Wan wrote.

2018's Aquaman, which was also directed by Wan, was a box office smash--it made more than $1.1 billion globally. It is the 24th biggest movie in the history of film based on box office.

Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom also stars Amber Heard as Mera and Yahya Abdul-Mateen II as Black Manta. The film releases in theaters on December 16, 2022, the same day that Avatar 2 arrives.
