Apple's iOS 9 Adoption Faster Than iOS 8

Gotta get that taco emoji.

Apple iOS 9 has seen a 12 percent adoption rate in the 24 hours after it first became available. According to a report from research firm Mixpanel, iOS 9 adoption rates are beating those seen with iOS 8 previously.

Speaking to TechCrunch, Mixpanel CEO Suhail Doshi attributed the lion's share of the adoption rate to the smaller size of the update as compared to iOS 8. The update is 3.5 times smaller than last year's, something Doshi says shows "Apple has empathy for its users who have nearly maxed out the space on their phones."

Doshi also said the adoption rate achieved in 24 hours by iOS 9 took Android Lollipop five months to reach. The adoption rate could be even higher, Doshi hypothesizes, were it not for Apple's servers "having trouble keeping up right now" with people trying to update.

Apple recently revealed a slew of updated products at its September live event, including a long-overdue update to its Apple TV device. The new device is more gaming focused than its predecessors, but don't worry: Apple TV isn't a console killer, at least not yet.
