Apple has been working on a mixed-reality VR headset known as the Reality Pro for years now, and it seems that it's finally ready for the big time. According to a new report from Bloomberg's Power On newsletter, the headset is expected to ship in 2023, and the company views it as its key new product for the year.

As mentioned in the report, Apple has been working on the Reality Pro headset since at least 2017, and the company has delayed it several times from its originally intended release date of 2019. Bloomberg suggests that Apple will unveil the product this spring before the Worldwide Developers Conference, which takes place in June. Apple apparently hoped to launch the headset in January 2023, but those plans have changed.

Developers already have their hands on the Reality Pro for testing purposes. Though the headset's operating system was called "Borealis" within Apple, its final public title will be xrOS. It's likely that the headset will ultimately ship in the fall of 2023 as Apple's big release for the year, but based on previous delays, nothing is set in stone. In other Apple news, the report also states that 2023's Mac lineup will be more modest than expected, with a high-end Mac Pro model canceled internally.

The VR world will see another big shift soon, as the long-awaited PS VR 2 will release on February 22, 2023.
