In a new interview, Anya Taylor-Joy spoke with MTV News about coming to love video games thanks to her role as Princess Peach in the upcoming Super Mario Bros. movie. The film is slated to hit theaters in April next year.

When asked whether she was into video games growing up, Taylor-Joy explained she wasn't, "But once I booked the job and my friends were so excited [for it], we bought all of, you know, the Mario Kart world and we really went for it." Taylor-Joy added, "My favorite way to play is at the arcade, though. I've now become, like, a hardcore adult arcade individual."

Taylor-Joy also described the fandom for the movie and Nintendo franchises in general as "wild," noting "I don't think I've ever had friends be more excited for anything I have ever done." She's looking forward to the press tour in 2023, where she fully intends to "actually be Peach" and wear a full costume accurate to the character.

Last year, while on the press tour for Netflix's The Queen's Gambit, Taylor-Joy told Stephen Colbert about how she is a Lord of the Rings superfan.

In addition to Taylor-Joy, the Super Mario Bros. Movie stars Chris Pratt, Jack Black, Charlie Day, Keegan-Michael Key, Seth Rogen, Fred Armisen, Khary Payton, and the original Mario voice, Charles Martinet, as an unannounced role. Key, who voices Toad, told Variety in October that he "got to improvise a song" in the film--Black, who plays Bowser, will also sing a song. The film is rated PG.
