Now Playing: Anthem Update Breaks Loot Drops, Then Fixes Them - GS News Update

Briefly, a bug in Anthem caused players to earn above average amounts of Masterwork and Legendary items. However, much to players' chagrin, the loot buff was quickly rectified with a rather large update, Patch 1.0.3. [Update: BioWare has released another update for Anthem's loot system. This one adjust the drop rate of Masterwork and Legendary items.]

According to Kotaku, when the bug was first discovered, players went to Reddit to ask BioWare to keep the changes in the game. The bug might have stuck around for a bit longer too, but Patch 1.0.3--which was originally scheduled to go live March 9--surprisingly went up a day early. "We're dropping the new [Anthem] patch ahead of schedule so you can all benefit from the updates and fixes, including improved stability on all platforms," EA said in a tweet. And unfortunately for those who were enjoying the increased drop rate for Masterwork and Legendary items, the update just happened to patch the bug as well.

Patch 1.0.3 was not created to address the bug, though, and actually fixes many notable problems in Anthem. The update removes respawn restrictions in the game, allowing you to return to the fight in Critical Path, Agents, and non-end game missions after 10 seconds, and to Legendary contracts and other end game missions after 30 seconds. Common and Uncommon items drops also no longer appear for players who are level 30. Audio improvements have been implemented as well, which should fix instances where the game's audio randomly cuts out completely. Patch 1.0.3 improves stability across all platforms too--designed to address any possible console crashing issues like the one that was plaguing PS4.

Neither BioWare nor EA have followed up on whether the loot drop rate will again be increased to the same level as it was on March 8. The full patch notes for Anthem's most recent update can be found on EA's website. The highlights are outlined below.

haha. so bioware sees a bug thats letting people finally have fun in their game, but they have to squash it to keep the grind alive.

Who is playing this game still? Why not leave the bug and let people have fun for a few months, this game will be dead and forgotten pretty soon, may as well let people who bought it have fun and enjoy it instead of grinding their time away on a dead game and getting nothing out of it.

soooo as much as I wanted this game to succeed, after the honeymoon phase wore off I saw the ugliness shine through bright af. The loot sucks bad and I mean BAD. The guns are all the same just different rarity. The customization is a joke. The best thing this game has to offer is the soundtrack and mediocre story. This game could of been sooooo good too.

Yeah they fixed so people would spend money to get those items or grind. I hope these types of games die quickly maybe we'll even see mtx stop if people stop buying that shit

@eli150: You know you talking nonsense right, where is there an paid option for gear? Vanity items sure you can pay for or use game coins but where is this so called money for items that apply to this post?

@N0madS0uL: all over the internet there are people trash talking the game and never even played it. And others that do play it and still complain actually can't stop playing it... LOL

@crashtestguy: You miss the point, we not discussing that the game isn't as good as it should be or that people are trash talking it. We talking about the loot system being changed in the latest patch and how it actually fixes an exploit and that people are now bitching because they no longer getting easy loot...

The comment made by @eli150 was equally as stupid one as yours simply because there are no pay to win in this game or as he said "Yeah they fixed so people would spend money to get those items" which was where my initial comment came from, about him speaking rubbish.

So blame the developers for whats actually wrong with the game, lack of content and other systems to keep the player vested, engaged and interested, don't spout rubbish or moan about them fixing what was clearly an mistake or oversight.

@N0madS0uL: I understand that your initial comment was about the nonsense eli150 was on about, but why do you even respond to it? That's why I made my point which you don't seem to understand. This Eli isn't here to have a discussion, he/she needs to vent here or something like that. You even hurt his/her feelings. This might be the only life he/she has.

@crashtestguy: The response came because I dislike when people spout nonsense when they clearly miss the point of the article. Furthermore I am also rather disappointed and peeved that EA Games once again hyped up a game to the nth degree and it ends up falling flat due to issues that were well within their experience to prevent.

Since Mass Effect 3, EA has not been able to impress me again and I feel suckered already for being a Premier subscriber. So my frustration is palpable and I didnt appreciate eli150 comment.

As for your own comment, I would say it was even more pointless than my own.

End of the day none of this changes that the game is not good enough at all...

@N0madS0uL: Dude no need to attack me for saying something you don't agree with. To be honest here.. what the hell does it matter what kind of items you can buy with real money? bottom line this is a 60$ game with season pass that cost even more money => mtx shouldn't exist in a game like this.

We've gone from paying 30-40$ for games to paying 60$ to DLC to mtx? I think this trend should stop here and people can actually buy a complete game that doesn't have so many bugs that make it unplayable

Avatar image for N0madS0uL

@eli150: I don't mean to attack anyone, I just frown on what IMO to what amounts to stupid but mostly baseless comments. In this latest comment of yours you now stating something else and that being the price of the game. We were talking about your original comment and what this article is about. SO I stick to what I said in my comments but will give you that the game costs a lot for too little, I also believe the game was only half way done before it was forced out so EA can start making money off it.

But I will not be unfair towards the publisher about selling items in game that benefit the player if its not happening, doesn't change that I am too peeved that there should be any real money markets, vanity or other. Yes, give me the whole game with all future content etc for a reasonable price. Alas gaming, movie, series and almost every other business out there is exactly that, business, damn the fans because it all revolves around money and power...sad.

So who wants to start a revolution with me? :D
