Now Playing: Anthem E3 2018 Gameplay Stage Presentation | E3 2018

Anthem producer Mark Darrah has commented on the action game's frame rate on console. At one point, Darrah said he thought the game would be locked at 30 FPS on console, but that estimate may no longer be accurate. The frame rate could be higher.

In a newer tweet, Darrah said Anthem might perform better, especially on "newer revisions." Presumably that is a reference to Xbox One X and PS4 Pro. "While I previously said consoles would be locked at 30, I may actually prove wrong. ESPECIALLY on the newer revisions," Darrah said.

The theatre demo that BioWare presented at EA Play yesterday looked quite slick, and that's in part because it was running at 60 FPS, Darrah said in a follow-up tweet. Presumably that footage was captured on a high-end PC to show the game in all of its glory. The PC specs for Anthem have yet to be released, but it's expected that those with a capable rig will have the best experience around.

Anthem is BioWare's first new IP in 10 years. Unlike the studio's previous titles, it is an always-online, co-op, multiplayer-focused shooter that has no romance options and limited branching dialogue choices. That is a big departure for the studio, but it's one that appears to be shaping up well.

For more on Anthem, you can check out GameSpot's hands-on preview of the game in which we called the title an exciting new direction for BioWare. Anthem launches on February 22 for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC.

I see Anthem and I just see Borderlands, The Division and Destiny. Really bored with that kind of game.

Let's not kid ourselves here. The PC version will be the only version worth playing.

@kempra: I am not the one playing these games on console... Terrible performance, shit controls, reduced graphics, more input lag, etc.. LOL

Just tell me the file size so I know what to delete on release date. This will also give me an idea of the look and performance.

We'll have to wait and see on the fps issue, because devs may show, but they won't tell.

If they couldn't get Destiny to run higher than 30, I doubt this will... How does CoD run at 60? The graphics seem decent.

Avatar image for BassMan

@joshrmeyer: COD games are very simplistic. Most maps are small and closed off. There really isn't that much going on. That is why they can easily pull off 60fps. However, with this new Blackout mode (Battle Royale)... I am wondering if they can pull off 60fps on console with the larger maps, vehicles, and other shit going on. It will be interesting to see how that pans out and what kind of complexity it will have if they are targeting 60fps.

@joshrmeyer: CoD runs at 60 because it runs on an old as hell engine and they haven't put work into the graphics in a decade.

Avatar image for joshrmeyer

@Thanatos2k: Odd... So the older engines run better? I was just playing Black ops 3 and it looked pretty good. Maybe not great but definitely good enough.

@joshrmeyer: When you improve your hardware but the engine remains the same, yeah it's gonna run better. Current hardware can indeed run Crysis on max settings.

In other words, PC version wins again XD

As far as Anthem goes, I need to play the beta first before I pass final judgment on the game rather it's a hit or a miss.

My guess, and it's just a bit of fun here, so no nastiness, please. PC - Anywhere from 20-120, depending on rig. XB1X - 4K @ 24fps average. PS4pro - solid 30fps @ 1800p. XB1 - sligtly higher than XB1X,say 28fps, but at 1080p. PS4- same as XB1, but 30ish. Will be very generic money grab, very pretty, but poorly optimised. Oh, and there'll be tons of DLC and MT's. Everybody wins! :)

PC will always look a million times better is just a matter if you have the RIG to run it at the higher settings. The problem is that most people don't have a machine capable of running the game at those high settings which in a lot cases make the PC game version look much worse in lower settings Pc's than what they look in the home consoles version.

Now with home consoles versions if they utilize the extra power of the Xbox One X then it should look much better than the PS4 version. I guess it comes down if they want to keep Sony happy and keep the games settings Equal for both versions of the game.

@angrycreepYou keep saying "looks" but frame-rate is more about input response and thus gameplay, not image quality.:

@runstalker: Well I didn't write it down but i meant to say the whole thing including frame rate

Avatar image for trtlmaster

@angrycreep: "utilize the extra power of the Xbox One X then it should look much better than the PS4 version" and the ps4 pro looks way better than the xbox s.far as the x and the pro same shit man more power dont change graphics 4k is 4k.cant tell a dam diff from the x or the pro.can always tell the fanboys who have never even touched the console they bash.keep sony happy lmao take the tinfoil hat off and stop being a fanboy

Avatar image for PixelAddict

@trtlmaster: Um, 4k is not 4k. Not all 4k is created equal.

Watch a TV with HDR and one without HDR and tell me they're equal. On top of that, performance does matter. Until your machine is being outperformed, at which point I hear "performance specs don't matter"

Keep in mind I own a PS4, Switch, Xb1s and just recently added a Xb1x. If the specs had been better on the PS4p, I would have that one instead of the Xb1x. I will probably pick one up when Last of Us Part 2 is released. That game looks gorgeous.

I have one rule: all consoles rule, but always buy the best one. Specs do matter.

@kempra: Aren't you an angry little troll.

I guess under the troll bridge you reside, you think playing Anthem on a PS4p combined with a Hisense 4k TV with questionable HDR quality, or maybe none at all, would match up with the X1x playing on a Samsung QLED or similar OLED.

If so, that's fine. Go back to your bridge. Someone is probably trying to steal your cardboard box bed.

@trtlmaster: most recent aaa games that have been reviewed by digital foundry have stated that pc ultra spec vs xbox one x spec not noticeably different.(image quality) in fact for games like far cry 5 and ac origins they actually recommended turning down some of the settings like shadows-detail to help frame rate even on 1080ti. i can tell you on my 1080ti vs my xox if the game is at native 4k with med-high settings looks way better than 1800p with high ultra settings. obviously the difference is 30 fps vs 60fps. xox is basically 4k native at 30fps now(especially for the newer releases) 1080ti is basically 60fps with xox settings. i cant imagine anyone choosing sub 60 fps to keep ultra settings across the board. with the next gen nvidia i think that will be time to say pc not only is 60fps but truly looks better than xox. ps5 and next gen xox better be 60fps native 4k easily.....or whats the point.

@jergernice1:

sorry jerg your 4k you mention is not native or true 4k.

second digital foundry wont know 4k if it hit them in the face.

. here comes the angry or hate.

how can i call out the bs

simple i edit, shoot etc in real true 4k. called the 4k standard with around 4 to 5 sub set for its 4k standard. no where is pc gaming mention at all.

4k is massive files sizes . where not talking gb here. where talking about tb lvl. like example master version of wizard of oz. in 8k compress is 22tb. 4k compress 11tb.

second you need a un godly pc to run 4k editing software at best decent.(seeing the pro standard software runs poor).

here another dirty secret most video games textures are uber compress. so it looks very water down.

i love how people are are so so so so clueless on 4k or hell gaming info when it deal with game engines.

@trtlmaster: You again? Why are you so bitter all the time? Just cheer up dude and don't take everything as an attack to your favorite console. If the truth bothering you? I'm jus stating the facts and you are bother by that. The extra power can indeed enhance game graphics even if both games are in 4K the extra power can run specials effects at a higher settings if is done and utilize correctly. So quit bitching because I have both consoles and I support both consoles even if I like one a little more than the other I own and like both of them.

Avatar image for trtlmaster

@angrycreep: "you again?never replied to anything you have ever said before so ok.the only fact you stated was that the xbox x looks better than the ps4 and i stated a fact the ps4 pro looks better than the xbox s.easy since the x is better than a ps4 and the pro is better than the s.as far as the x and the pro if you did own both then you would know like those of us who do own both that there is little to no diff in the games.i have battlefield on both ww2 on both and there is not one noticeable diff in either game on either system.and the comment "I guess it comes down if they want to keep Sony happy and keep the games settings Equal for both versions of the game" shows you are either just a fanboy or dont have both or you would know they both play the exact same shit with no diff at all.but whatever have a great day and enjoy the games on your system of choice.

Avatar image for doomsdayhell01

@trtlmaster: Ok so why are you upset because he use the turn To keep Sony happy? If he would have turn that around and say to keep Microsoft happy you would not be here upset and arguing around. lol! There a lot games that look the same but is not because they can't make them a little better is just that they not really that interested in putting the Extra effort for that to happen.
