Anthem Being Refunded For Some PS4 Users Following Crash Bug

Crashing back down.

Anthem has had a rocky launch, from middling reviews to bugs. The most severe of these problems has been crashing bugs on PS4, causing the entire system to shut down improperly. PlayStation 4 users have been vocal about the problem, and EA is aware of the issue. In the meantime, though, Sony is offering refunds to at least some affected users.

Variety reports that several users on Reddit claimed they had been given refunds from Sony's support chat. The support center is said to only ask a series of account verification questions, since Sony is already aware of the pervasive crashing issue. Other users claim they were refused a refund, and Sony hasn't issued an official statement offering refunds.

Now Playing: Anthem - Launch Trailer

EA, meanwhile, is in the midst of gathering data about the crashing bug so that it can work on a fix. It has requested that impacted users submit information including your make of console, PSN ID, whether you submitted a crash report through the console itself, and any other details.

"We are currently in process of gathering information about the PS4 issues so we can determine the root cause," the company wrote in a blog post.

This is the latest in a series of mishaps and missteps for Anthem. The VIP demo was buggy itself, reviews were less than stellar, and one update even broke the game. BioWare has laid out a lengthy post-launch roadmap for the coming months, including new missions, guilds, and a large-scale event called a "Catalyst." This is all being positioned as the first act in an ongoing story, so the studio appears to be in it for the long haul.

Happened to me last night on my Xbox One X - Game locked up and the screen went black. I thought my wife accidentally shut the TV off, until I realized my console was what had shut down - completely. I restarted it, relaunched Anthem, the game picked up right where I left off (in the forge), but then backed out to the title due to disconnect from EA Servers. At least 3 times a week, the game freezes and goes back to dashboard. I am highly considering just being done with this nonsense, and requesting a refund. I really like the game, but The Division 2 is coming out next week, along with Devil May Cry 5...

I fail to understand how a AAA game dev can launch buggy games where they only have to worry about one configuration... that too a console breaking bug! I can understand if it was a PC where there are multiple configurations... but a game crashing a console... this is epic! EA has once again grabbed the title of the worst game dev with this sneaky move.

*At Ubishit HQ* "Damn! We will beat you to it next year EA!"

Just the news your game needs - that it's getting refunded for destroying people's consoles.

@Thanatos2k: it's not bricking consoles, just improperly shutting them down.

@Mirimon78: Improperly shut down a console enough times and it won't start back up.

This probably should have been free to play.. they really need to fix the game. Glad i manged to stop myself from getting excited for this. It's a shame, the game looks so good and the flying around looks awesome. This could have been a great game

@Ansem_Rev: FALSE. It shut off my OneX while in the Forge 2 days ago. Not even like I was in a graphically intensive firefight. It freezes and backs out to the Dashboard at least 3-4 times a week. The game's broken - doesn't matter what console.

Gamespot move on from this garbage and let’s hear more about the division 2. A company that actually cares about its player base.

@jigar7: If ignorance was bliss you would be in a field of flowers and unicorns. Massive is the developer of the division. Ubisoft would be the publisher. Ubishit? That’s hilarious. I guess you never heard of rainbow six siege....ya know....like one of the most popular games in the world right now.

@cboye18: I am sad this day that I have to correct someone twice. MASSIVE IS THE FN DEVELOPER NOT UBISOFT.

@jaybass: "Massive Entertainment is a Swedish video game developer based in Malmö, Sweden. The company has been fully owned by Ubisoft since 2008"

Ubisoft is the developer. Probably time to stop trying to "correct" people and just slink off.

@Thanatos2k: Obviously you never worked under a corporate umbrella. Regardless “Ubisoft” has been pretty good and “Massive” has made the division 2 using community feedback. EA and BioWare is absolute shit now. They don’t care cause they know we will buy their garbage regardless.

@jaybass: absolutely not. I was stating that Ubisoft doesn’t make shit games as of late. Massive is still the developer of the division regardless of who owns them. Massive also hosted a weekly state of the game for Lord knows how long just to interact with the community. Also in case you were wondering, yes bungie made destiny and not Activision.

@jaybass: So what you're saying is the game was made by Ubisoft, contrary to what you just attempted to "correct" people on.

I work under a corporate umbrella. The overlord gets credit and blame for our work.
