[UPDATE] Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania reeled in $120 million over the four-day Presidents Day holiday weekend in the US; it made $105.5 million over the traditional three-day period from Friday to Sunday. That's the best start so far for the Ant-Man series, and it's now the first movie of 2023 to kick off with a $100 million+ opening in the US.

Quantumania has earned $239 million from overseas markets so far, for a global total of $359.3 million worldwide so far, according to Box Office Mojo.

The original story is below.

Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania earned between $17 million-$18 million in Thursday previews in the United States, according to Deadline's early estimates.

In any event, it looks like Quantumania is tracking similarly to Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, which earned $17 million from its Thursday screenings in 2017. The movie opened in 43 markets around the world on Wednesday and Thursday, and it earned $23.8 million in those places, according to Deadline. Combined with the $18 million from the US on Thursday, that's good for around $41 million so far globally.

For comparison, Quantumania would be pretty far below the Thursday numbers for some of Marvel's biggest 2022 films, including Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness ($36 million), Thor: Love and Thunder ($29 million), and Black Panther: Wakanda Forever ($28 million).

Quantumania is projected to earn as much as $110 million in the US over its upcoming four-day holiday weekend and a total of around $280 million worldwide to start. Quantumania is tracking for the biggest start in the entire Ant-Man series.

Quantumania is not getting the best reviews from critics, but Deadline suggests the movie's critical scores may not matter all that much because fans are expected to show up, in part, to see Jonathan Majors as the new villain Kang the Conqueror. Majors is being praised for his performance as Kang, who is the first major new MCU villain since Thanos.

Quantumania is directed by Peyton Reed and stars Paul Rudd, Evangeline Lilly, Jonathan Majors, Kathryn Newton, Michael Douglas, Michelle Pfeiffer, and Bill Murray in his MCU debut.
