Xbox One owners who are looking for a new game to dive into but don't want to spend a lot of cash are in luck. Not only can you play Halo Wars 2 for free all weekend long, but you can also pick up your axe and try to survive in Conan Exiles. It's free to play between now and Sunday, October 21 at noon PT (3 PM ET). You can find it in the Free Play Weekend section on the Xbox One's dashboard. The only catch is that you need an Xbox Live Gold subscription to participate.

Conan Exiles is an open-world survival game in which you create a character who's banished to the Exiled Lands. You start with nothing but a loincloth, so your job is to hunt animals, gather resources, craft weapons, build dwellings, and bring great pain to your enemies.

You can capture NPCs and force them to join your clan. You can even summon and control giant gods in order to wreck the beautiful things other players have built. If it sounds like a lot to take in, you can read some tips for starting out on the Xbox blog.

This free play weekend comes on the heels of what the developers are calling the game's biggest update yet. The update introduced the ability to tame animals and turn them into pets. It also added the Midnight Grove dungeon, some new combos, and specialist arrows. For more information about the game, you can read our Conan Exiles review.

If you decide to buy Conan Exiles, you can get it on sale for $30 (down from $50) on the Microsoft Store through this weekend as well. Don't wait too long, though, because the price goes back up Sunday.
