Another Super Mario Galaxy possible

Shigeru Miyamoto says Super Mario 3D World does not necessarily signal the end of the Galaxy series.

A third entry in the Super Mario Galaxy series has not been ruled out, Mario creator Shigeru Miyamoto has confirmed. In the latest Iwata Asks feature, Miyamoto said the upcoming release of Super Mario 3D World does not necessarily signal the end of the Galaxy series.

"Just so there is no misunderstanding, I should point out that this doesn't mean we'll never make another Super Mario Galaxy game," Miyamoto said.

"That's right," Nintendo EAD's Yoshiaki Koizumi agreed. "When we first started making Super Mario 3D World, Miyamoto-san asked me if this was going to be more like Super Mario Galaxy or more like Super Mario 3D Land. When we made Super Mario 3D Land, we had our eyes on the form of this game, so we made it this way without any hesitation."

"The same team can't make both at the same time," Miyamoto added. "And we can't bring in a second party and slap the name Super Mario Galaxy on it. I suppose we could idealistically make both in Tokyo, but we want to do something new too, so there was that dilemma."

This tallies with what Miyamoto said last month, when he explained that Nintendo did not set out to define the future of Mario action games with Super Mario 3D World. Nintendo will not limit itself to games similar to Super Mario 3D World in the future, Miyamoto said.

"So for example, I certainly wouldn't rule out the possibility of us creating more games in the vein of Super Mario Galaxy," he said at the time.

Super Mario 3D World will be released on November 22.

<< LINK REMOVED >> SM3DW is on Wii U, not 3DS. I would like to see a Galaxy game on 3DS. Would be pretty good.

I'll tell you, Super Mario Sunshine is the Final Fantasy 7 effect but in reverse. When FF7 fanboys overrated the crap out of the game by saying bullshit things like "It's THE BEST JRPG ever," it caused people to come out the woodworks and troll them by saying that it's a piece of shit. They could of said that it's just a good game and nothing more, but no.

And for Super Mario Sunshine, when the game was declared to be the worst in the series, and so rightfully so. So that cause fanboys to troll us by trying to push that game to the best in the Super Mario series. Those morons could of simply say that they like the game and accept that it's the least likable Super Mario game, but no, fanboys gotta troll.

They've got Super Mario Land, World and Galaxy. Now maybe they'll make a Super Mario Solar System before they make another Galaxy and then they've always got the even larger Super Mario Universe.

I personally think they can drop the Super of the title and call It ( MARIO chronicles) or ( Legend of MARIO ) or ( MARIO GT{Grand Tour} ). Make an adventure game with Mario Similar to SM64, But instead of loading screens and such just introduce a leveling system with quests. Make a hybrid Adventure/RPG Mario I get bored of looking down on Mario so 3rd Person View is essential. Well these are just some of my ideas.

I don't even care about the style. My main complaint with Super Mario 3D World is the fact that it seems to be intended more for Multiplayer experiences than Single Player, and that's something that I am very unhappy about.

I love Nintendo because they create often-perfect Single Player games while the rest of the industry is often focusing on getting Multiplayer in every game and refining that aspect. The fact that Mario is becoming more of a Multiplayer game is very worrying for me, especially since my friends would never want to play a Mario game with me. I want to know that I am playing the game as it was intended, but I fear that I won't have that feeling when I'll get the chance to play through 3D World (though, who knows?).

Then again, I am obviously in the minority. Most seem very excited about the multiplayer feature, so I suppose Nintendo is doing the right thing.

<< LINK REMOVED >>They made the game particularly because the 3DS couldn't handle the multiplayer mode that was planed for Super Mario 3D Land. So they decided to make a multiplayer version of the game on the Wii U. That doesn't mean that the future of mario is focused on multi player, just that this game is.

That game still looks to be incredibly fun as a single player game. If you found 3D Land really fun, then you should have a blast with 3D World.

Whatever it is, just fucking make it. Tired of hearing about just "ideas." Make them reality.

Avatar image for Hurvl

<< LINK REMOVED >> Ideas are no good and can't be copyrighted either. I have lots of ideas, but won't tell anyone about them until I can show up a finished product.

Personally I would like to see a Super Mario World 2, basically like Mario 64 with its strong sense of exploration but with environments based on the SNES classic

Avatar image for polostation

<< LINK REMOVED >> ignorant. super mario world 2 already exist and it is great. it was release on 1995 for the super nintendo

Avatar image for de-astroturfer

<< LINK REMOVED >><< LINK REMOVED >> To me its just plain Yoshi's island but by all means call it Super Mario world 3

Super Mario Galaxy 3? Nintendo will eventually have a regular installment of the Mario series.

Avatar image for prats93

I guess Nintendo really are running out of ideas, lol. There will never be another Super Mario Galaxy.

Avatar image for abHS4L88

Still way more ideas than most other developers.

Man not another galaxy. make another world. I'm sick of stars shooting me all over the place

Honestly, I don't think many people would mind a few Mario games similar to 3D World based on how recent videos have made it look. If there's a Mario series that needs to get back on track, it's Paper Mario since Sticker Star was a slap in the face to fans of that series.

IMO Boring

Avatar image for Ovirew

Of course Nintendo wants to keep coming back to my least-favorite Mario game. XD

I would much rather have a second Sunshine, I thought the mechanics in that game were interesting and the setting and music were nice.

But in all honesty why not keep trying new stuff? There hasn't been a 'normal' 3D Mario game since SM64 - that was technically the only one!

Dont say possible you need a game similar to the same experience as galaxy

Avatar image for theKSMM

I'm a gamer, and even I find Nintendo's naming scheme for these games very confusing. They've gotten to a point that every game is named [New] Super [Mario | Luigi] [World | Land | Galaxy] [ 3D]. I forgot which games came in which order and which platforms they're on. So when somebody asks me if I've ever played New Super Mario Brothers 3D, I have to stop and think about it.

I've seen listing for Super Mario 3D World for a while now and didn't even realize it was for a new game.

Avatar image for Hurvl

<< LINK REMOVED >> Super Mario can't let Final Fantasy have all the fun of confusing game titles.

Avatar image for YearoftheSnake5

Mario 3D World/Land remind me of Galaxy the way they are. Take away the starbits and flying around, and it's pretty much the same concept. I wouldn't mind another "official" entry in the Galaxy series, as those games are some of the best out of last gen. They needed to take a break from it, though.

Avatar image for sakaixx

what about mario sunshine , mario rpg and paper mario ? liked those game

Avatar image for prats93

@sakaixx The Mario RPG games are in the hands of Intelligent Systems, not Nintendos business.

Avatar image for gameroutlawzz

@sakaixx Mario RPG remains as one of the best games ever made. Sunshine was pretty and really fun also. I loved the first Paper mario but imo they lost the touch with the others.

Avatar image for YouEnjoyMyFluff

Glaxay is the best Mario series ever /thread

Avatar image for howiex89

I love the word "another" at the start of this article.... so Ninentedo, got anything new that doesn't involve Mario....

Avatar image for gilldominic

I would never rule out another Mario anything.

Nintendo will still be making Mario games after humanity has been wiped out and the sun has exploded destroying the solar system in its entirety.

Mario After-Party?

Avatar image for gameroutlawzz

@gilldominic Yet I bet you think Crap of Us is the messiah of gaming when that garbage is barely a fucking game. Id take a new mario RPG/World/Galaxy/Kart/sport over that fucking dull, linear cinematic crap with tacked on gameplay segment that are the overpraised garbage like Bioshit infinite,Crap of us or any other ''AAA'' bullshit we get nowadays.

Avatar image for gilldominic

<< LINK REMOVED >> Sounds like you've decided what my opinion is purely so it suits your desire to insult those games in a rather angry fashion.

As long as you're not putting any money down on your "bets" I suppose there's no real harm in it though. You can quietly have your little "storm in a teacup" while no one else pays much attention.

Although a few deep breaths here and there might help you keep a little calmer... ;)
