Anne Hathaway Controls Giant Rampaging Monster in First Colossal Trailer
"It's like it's being operated by remote control."
While giant monsters stomping on cities is a familiar premise in sci-fi and fantasy cinema, the upcoming movie Colossal puts a unique twist on it. Anne Hathaway plays a hard-partying woman who wakes up one morning to learn that she is somehow controlling the huge creature currently laying waste to Seoul in Korea. Check the trailer out below:
Colossal is directed by Spanish filmmaker Nacho Vigalondo, who previously helmed the highly acclaimed time-travelling thriller Time Crimes. It also stars Jason Sudeikis (Horrible Bosses), Dan Stevens (Beauty & The Beast), and Tim Blake Nelson (Fantastic Four).
In a recent interview with Indiewire, Hathaway revealed she would've loved Colossal as a teenager. "I would have loved this movie and felt so cool knowing it existed," she said. "I did this one for my 16-year-old self."
The Dark Knight Rises star went on to explain the difference between making big studio movies and more unusual independent movies like this. "In [studio] circumstances you're sometimes encouraged to make fear-based decisions," she said. "In this one, it just felt very free spirited, and we were working with an amazing company that trusted their filmmaker."
Colossal hits theaters on April 7.
