The sequel to the big-screen adaptation of Angry Birds now has a cast. Den of Geek reports that Sony signed on a wide array of returning and new cast members for the movie, which is set to release on September 20, 2019. That date will mark the 10th anniversary of the original Angry Birds game.

Jason Sudeikis, Josh Gad, Bill Hader, Danny McBride, and Peter Dinklage will all reprise their roles. Fellow SNL alum Leslie Jones is taking a leading role as the film's villain. Other new cast members will include Rachel Bloom, Sterling K Brown, Eugenio Derbez, Zach Woods, Awkwafina, Lil Rel Howery, Brooklynn Prince, and Dave Cameron.

Now Playing: GS News Update: Angry Birds Movie Sequel on the Way

The sequel is being directed by Thurop Van Orman, who has credits on The Marvelous Misadventures of Flapjack and Adventure Time. The co-director will be John Rice of Rick and Morty and King of the Hill, as well as the Angry Birds Hatchlings shorts. The first movie netted $350 million worldwide, and the sequel involves "flightless birds and scheming green piggies take their beef to the next level."

The first movie wasn't a critical success, though, having received an aggregate 43 on our sister site Metacritic. GameSpot's Angry Birds review agreed with the negative assessment, calling it "nonsensical even by its own internal logic and just plain boring from beginning to end."
