Funcom has announced that its massively multiplayer online role-playing game, Anarchy Online, has gone gold and will arrive in stores later this month. The game is set in the distant future on a distant planet in a small mining outpost. Players can choose to participate in a conflict between a powerful megacorporation and a group of rebel clans or can strike out on their own as independent adventurers.
Anarchy Online and its sci-fi world will compete with established online role-playing games such as World War II Online, which takes place during World War II. Funcom is confident that the game will measure up favorably against the competition.
"We are very excited to bring Anarchy Online to the market and expect that our customers will be very happy with the final product," said Funcom president Andre Backen. "No other game in the market today can rival our graphics, and none can support as many players in the same playing field as we can."
Anarchy Online will be available in stores on June 27 for an approximate retail price of $49.99. For more information, take a look at the new screenshots posted in the gallery above and browse our extensive collection of screenshots, movies, and in-depth previews of the game.
