Codemasters has today announced that it will release American Idol for the Game Boy Advance later this year. The reality-TV-show-inspired rhythm action game, which is also scheduled for release on the PC and PS2, will see players competing in the TV show by pressing combinations of buttons in time with music.

"American Idol and the Game Boy Advance is a perfect combination," said Steven Lux, senior vice president of US marketing for Codemasters. "Over 60 percent of the 14.5 million Game Boy Advance owners are under 18, which is the core of our target audience."

The GBA version of American Idol will allow players to create and style their own characters before performing in front of the celebrity judges Randy Jackson, Paula Abdul, and Simon Cowell.
