Released in 2006, American Born Chinese is a graphic novel by Gene Luen Yang, which became a best-seller and multiple award winner. A live-action television series adaptation has been in the works for Disney+, and we have our first look at the series with a brand-new trailer.

Adapted by Kelvin Yu (Shang-Chi) and starring recent Academy Award winners Michelle Yeoh and Ke Huy Quan, American Born Chinese is about two young men caught between two worlds, literally and figuratively. Jin Wang (Ben Wang) feels as though he doesn't belong in his mainly Caucasian suburban area and Wei-Chen (Jim Liu) is caught in a struggle due to his desire to be normal, despite being a would-be god's son

The series was ordered in 2021 and will be produced by Disney's 20th Television with Kelvin Yu and Charles Yu as writers and executive producers.

Joining Quan, Yeoh, Wang, and Liu are Daniel Wu (Shang-Chi), Stephanie Hsu (Everything Everywhere All At Once), Chin Han (The Dark Knight), Hong Huifang (Together), Poppy Liu (iCarly), Lisa Lu (Crazy Rich Asians), James Hong (Everything Everywhere All At Once), and Jimmy O. Yang (Netflix's Space Force).

American Born Chinese arrives on Disney+ on May 24.
