Ambitious Xbox One game-builder Project Spark hits open beta today

You can try out Microsoft's open-world "digital canvas" starting today on Xbox One.

Microsoft announced today that the beta for Team Dakota's ambitious game-builder Project Spark is now available on Xbox One. The beta was originally released on Windows 8.1 devices in December 2013, and more than 250,000 people signed up for that period, Microsoft said.

You can sign up for the Project Spark Xbox One beta today through the game's website. If you're already in the Windows 8.1 beta, you'll also receive access to the Xbox One beta. It's not clear if or when a beta will be offered on Xbox 360.

Using Project Spark, you can create your own games and movies, or try out other community-made creations. Project Spark also features cross-platform capabilities, allowing you to build a game on Windows 8.1 and then continue playing on Xbox One, or the other way around.

So you can't even make your own textures and models because they might be offensive to someone. Being stuck with some pre-made models and textures is a let down IHMO. Plus, they didn't realized a way to make simple and fun to add animation to the models... here's a clue: EVERY X1 COMES WITH KINECT 2.0 which is able to read your movement with a reasonable level of accuracy almost real time! It's like having a mo-cap in your living room, c'mon!

<< LINK REMOVED >> Ummm you can most certainly use Kinect to create custom Mo-Caps in project spark thats been demoed since last years E3 and I have been playing Project Spark since end of october 2013 and its crazy awesome watching my game come to life. And as far as models I doubt they could make an easy way to import external PC models to be able to work on 3 different platforms so yeah it has nothing to do with being offensive.

@grenadehh I'm sure I heard the bald guy saying they didn't realized a fast and fun way to make animations without an actual mo-cap equipment. Someone must tell them no X1 comes without the Kinect 2.0, which works really fine by the way.

Now, regarding the fear for obscene textures and models, I think they're too overprotective since any user generated content is more than likely going to be offensive in some way. Preventing all the users from making their own textures and models for the sake of bad users is a deal breaker for me.

anything you make on xbox can be played on the pc and anything made on pc can be played on the xbox.

I played the closed Beta, and quickly lost interest once I realized I was limited in how much land mass I could use. Hope the final version is much better.

they have a system to link worlds together. So you can make zones and parts of a world and link them to each other and make a large world that way .

there is nothing the pc is getting that the xbox isnt getting .

the games you make on one system are open to be played on the other platforms so i dont think you will be able to mod this game.

also the xbox one will be supporting the keybored so you can use that to make the brains faster if you like.

Its the same game on both platforms except the PC version has the option and potential for more customization, be that through control preference, or possible modding/official tools that are only usable on PC. The PC version can use Kinect, touch pad, controller or mouse and keyboard.


In that respect, how is the "limited" console version going to be more fun/enjoyable?

Got the pc beta key almost 6 months ago but I was waiting for the XB1 version. The Spark devs said you can use the same beta from Windows on the XB1. Definitely can't wait to try this out later!

there are alot of people putting guids out from simple stuff to crazy advanced stuff.
Also try other peoples worlds and open the brains on there stuff to see how they did it.

I think you can even copy and port stuff like brains so you can use one other people make.

@Tigerbite2 @kitmeep the when/do statements are confusing, because its relational.. until you play with it and see it how what you did affects it, is hard to visualize. For example, If want 10 enemies in this one area and I want them to react to me going thru there, but I don't want them to leave the area, what do I need to do. and its not just that. There is like 5 or 6 "If"s that are options. Would really be nice for an OPTION for "suggestions" to pop up for assistance if needed.

I try not to think when playing games. lol. But Once my nephew learns it, I'll get him to help me :). i'll tell him what I want, He will show me. << LINK REMOVED >> All it is, is simplified coding. It's not something that's "easy" and their are so many possibilities suggestions would be all over the place. (Also, it's been a month or so since I messed with PS, but just make a brain near the enemies and just yell at the enemies to not go x amount of distance away from that area.

I remember the first time I try to give my character a bow, I went to test it and I had thousands of bows jumping around shooting. I was like...WTF DID I DO, AHHHHHH
