Amazon's Lord Of The Rings Series Wraps Filming On Season 1, Behind-The-Scenes Photos Released

To celebrate the fact that filming has finally wrapped up on Amazon's The Lord of the Rings TV show for Season 1, the show's Twitter account shared some new behind-the-scenes photos.

"Thank you to our amazing cast and crew and to New Zealand for being the incredible place we have been privileged to call home as we bring the Second Age and Middle-earth to life," the page said.

Seven more tweets followed, containing images of directors J.A. Bayona (Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom), Wayne Ye Chip (Doctor Who), and Charlotte Brändström (The Witcher). Other images show off some of the filming sites, including sandy beaches and sunlit forests throughout New Zealand. Check out all the images below.

In addition to these photos from the set, Amazon shared the first still from the show itself that appears to showcase the Two Trees of Valinor and a mysterious figure that some believe is a young Galadriel.

The Lord of the Rings TV show, which doesn't have an official title yet, will premiere its first episode on September 2, 2022. Additional episodes will follow weekly on Prime.

The showrunners on The Lord of the Rings are Patrick McKay and JD Payne, both of whom do not have experience running a TV show. Neither did D.B. Weiss and David Benioff before they worked on Game of Thrones, which would become a juggernaut.

"As Bilbo says, 'Now I think I am quite ready to go on another journey.' Living and breathing Middle-earth these many months has been the adventure of a lifetime. We cannot wait for fans to have the chance to do so as well," Payne and McKay said in a statement.

In addition to the TV series, Warner Bros. is fast-tracking a Lord of the Rings theatrical animated movie, while a video game focused on Gollum is in the works.
