Amazon unveils internal game studio, Facebook title
Online retailer jumps into development, opens up "moving object" game Living Classics as first effort.
Amazon doesn't just want to sell games any more--it wants to make them, too. The online retail giant revealed Amazon Game Studios today, as well as its first game, a Facebook "moving object" game which pulls its scenes from classic literature.
Amazon Game Studios targets Amazon users who already play social and free-to-play games as well as other gamers, according to the developer's website. "Thanks to Amazon's know-how, we believe we can deliver a great, accessible gaming experience that gamers and our customers can play any time," it says.
The studio's first game, Living Classics, depicts illustrated locations and characters from classics including The Wizard of Oz and Alice in Wonderland. Players look for hidden objects across the locales and can help friends out with a variety of shared power-ups.
