Amazing Spider-Man, TMNT Games Pulled From Steam, PSN, and Xbox Stores

Anyone looking to pick up a new digital copy is out of luck.

A number of Activision's licensed games are no longer for sale on digital storefronts as of this week, including those in the Spider-Man and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles series.

Reports recently began to come in that The Amazing Spider-Man and The Amazing Spider-Man 2 had both disappeared from Steam, the PlayStation Store, the Xbox Store, and the eShop. Meanwhile, it's also been discovered that fellow Activision game Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutants in Manhattan has also disappeared from the digital platforms it was available on.

No Caption Provided

Activision has not made any formal announcements regarding the games' removals. GameSpot has followed up with the company and will report back with any response we receive.

While licensed games have disappeared from digital stores numerous times in the past--including some of Activision's--the TMNT one comes as a surprise. The Amazing Spider-Man games were released in 2012 and 2014, respectively, whereas the Platinum Games-developed Mutants in Manhattan debuted less than a year ago, in May 2016. Games are typically delisted due to licensing agreements expiring, but that's an awfully short time for it to have been available.

Previously purchased versions of these games will remain playable, and physical copies remain in circulation. Unless something changes with digital availability, the latter will be your only way of getting your hands on any of these games in the future.

With Spider-Man coming to the PS4, who honestly cares about these terrible excuses for Spider-Man games?

@King_Pazuzu: Tru I could break the disk but there is always another disk you could buy ..could forget your password like my best friend who forgot his Xbox live acct password and couldn't remember the security questions cause he was on PlayStation for a year so all the digital stuff he bought from 2014 was gone he still has his physical stuff lost his achievements but still has the games. I just like to own my games ..guess everyone has a preference

@spectrexr1: You don't "own" anything, even when it's a physical disc. When we buy games, we accept EULA's that given us a license to rent the game. The developers and publishers withhold the right to take those games away at any time. Think you are safe? A simple patch or update could render your game inoperable. Think you can just stay offline forever? Welcome to the internet age. Microsoft jumped the gun, but always-online is becoming a real thing in the gaming industry. Your fear of digital games is silly and irrational. If anything, it's far more convenient and typically cheaper than buying physical discs. If games go to GOG, there is zero DRM there and you never have to worry about losing the game.

@pax_augusta: lmao stop it . I own my disk my, my 360 games I can play when I want...my acct banned I still have my games. Just like the mix up with paypal on PS4 banned acct due to Sony policy..no access to all your games. You keep thinking you own something digital. It's a bunch of code on a hd tied to a acct.if you own something how does Sony or Ms banning your acct keep u from something you own. U don't own it. The companies want everything digital so we have to only to thru them. Wake up brah

@spectrexr1: Uh, noooo... All that's gone is the ability to purchase it again. You can redownload it whenever. (Though, on older consoles, you might have to go to your download history to do it.)

This is just them getting rid of garbage license titles, no real loss here. On the bright side at least we got Shantae: Half Genie Hero.

@lukey52: I hope you realize those who already owned the digital copy of the games still can play them. The only thing this stops is anyone from buying future digital copies of these games.

@lukey52: I treasured physical copies of games, I also welcome digital but usually don't recommend them if I already had the physical version. Usually games with licensed property always tend to had a bad habit of disappearing and hard to find. Project X Zone disappeared from the 3DS eShop a few months ago too but luckily the physical copy still exist for cheap. Tatsunoko vs. Capcom never appeared as a digital copy and I'm glad it's still sell for cheap online (probably due to the lack of online play) but at least it's still fun for tournament play.

@lukey52: Physical and digital are good for different reasons. And for anything. Not just games. It'd be pretty stupid to stop releasing physical movies or music (unless the materials for creating the media is getting scarce and we need them for important stuff, really important stuff).

@Vatusus: A future where you can no longer find games you plan to buy as they could disappeared at any moment, such a bleak future indeed.

I am pretty sure that TMNT game was decently rated. I don't get where people say it's crap. Oh right. Activision haters. But this was developed by Platinum Games anyway. That's the only loss I see. The Spiderman games though...

@kaminobenimizu: It wasnt that good, I own it and its really not well done. It felt like a PS2 game, which isnt bad, but not for the price released.

@inebriantia: Might not be as good as MadWorld or even Bayonetta (which is equal to Devil May Cry 3), but nowhere as bad as many claim it to be.

Might be on the level of Transformers Devastation. Not worth $60, more like $30.

@kaminobenimizu: It's bad and PlatinumGames should feel bad for even making it. Hopefully that effort doesn't hamper them on their future titles as I'm still looking forward to a third Bayonetta.

@leeko_link: So... out of 3 licensed Beat 'Em Ups (Transformers Devastation, The Legend of Korra, and TMNT), only Transformers is good...!? That's beyond odd...

Well, they are working on the new Nier game for Square Enix. If this one is bad (it didn't look bad so far, but maybe it'll be bad for $60 if it's ridiculously short, or the story is just awful), we might need to worry about a possible Bayonetta 3.

So far, they only failed 2 out of 3, it seems. I guess I'll watch more than 4 minutes to judge again. Or maybe it's one of these games that I just need to play to see how flawed it truly is.
