National Cinema Day is returning for 2023, and that means all movies at many theaters this coming weekend will be just $4 (before tax), and that includes tickets for Barbie and Oppenheimer.

The National Association of Theater Owners (NATO) have announced that National Cinema Day 2023 will take place this Sunday, August 27 in the United States only. More than 3,000 theaters are taking part in the promo, which is organized by NATO's Cinema Foundation charity.

2022 marked the first instance of National Cinema Day, and it was a big success, with 8.1 million people seeing a movie for the discounted rate of $3, according to the AP. This year, it's a dollar more and taking place on a Sunday as opposed to a Saturday.

The first National Cinema Day in 2022 was held on Saturday, September 3, and the biggest movie then was Top Gun: Maverick, but it wasn't very new, having released at the end of May that year. But this year, moviegoers can see movies like Barbie, Oppenheimer, Gran Turismo, Blue Beetle, and more for only $4. You could also do a double-feature and watch Barbie and Oppenheimer to complete the Barbenheimer viewing experience for only $8, which is pretty great.

More people coming to the movie theater also means more people buying popcorn at a 1275% markup, so the theater chains get goodwill for cheap tickets and benefit from increased foot traffic for concessions.
