All Game Awards 2018 Announcements: Smash DLC, Dragon Age 4, Mortal Kombat 11

The 2018 Game Awards were held in Los Angeles, and we got quite a lot of big news from it. Show organiser Geoff Keighley promised 10 or more new game announcements, along with updates on games that have already been announced, and the show delivered--including some surprise reveals. Here in this post we've rounded up all the biggest news from the show so you can get a quick overview of the main announcements.

Going into the show we knew the next Far Cry game, rumoured to be the post-apocalyptic Far Cry New Dawn, would be announced at the event, while the next RPG from Fallout: New Vegas studio Obsidian was also expected to make an appearance at the awards event. While both of of those showed, a new Alien game titled Alien: Blackout was also rumoured to be revealed at the awards show, but was MIA. We also got some big Fortnite news as well.

Oh, also Thanos is in the game.

Journey To The Savage Planet

Typhoon Studio, the new team made up of developers who worked on Assassin's Creed and Batman: Arkham Asylum, announced a new game, Journey to the Savage Planet. Coming in 2019, the game is an up-beat adventure game focusing on the exploration of a hostile alien planet with little to no resources. Though the concept is prime material for another battle-royale or survival game, the developers state that it's purely an adventure game. We're still a bit in the dark about what to expect from the game, but the developers stated in a press release what the game's essence is all about.

A new version of the thought-provoking narrative game The Stanley Parable is coming in 2019 for console. The game is called The Stanley Parable Ultra Deluxe, and it comes with more content.

Far Cry: New Dawn

Following the recent tease of a new Far Cry game, Ubisoft unveiled a spin-off of sorts to Far Cry 5. Set years after the end of that game in a post-apocalyptic version of its setting, Hope County, Far Cry: New Dawn pits you against a band of hostile survivors. It launches in early 2019 for $40, and yes, the dog can finally ride in your car.


The next game from Transistor and Bastion developer Supergiant Games was revealed during The Game Awards. It's called Hades, and it's available right now in early access on the just-launched Epic Games Store. The game is presented from a top-down perspective, just like Bastion and Transistor.

A new survival/shooter/competition game, Scavengers is in development at Midwinter, a new studio founded by former Halo developer Josh Holmes. In the game, teams have to work together to survive, while also competing to win. Playtesting begins in 2019. You can sign up here.

Crash Team Racing Remaster

Crash Bandicoot made a big comeback in 2017 with the N-Sane Trilogy, a collection of remasters of the first three games. Seeing as that game sold incredibly well, it shouldn't be any surprise that publisher Activision has decided to remaster the last remaining Naughty Dog-developed Crash game, CTR: Crash Team Racing. Rebranded Crash Team Racing: Nitro-Fueled, the classic PS1 kart racer is being brought into the modern age with updated graphics, online play, and customization options. The remaster is being handled by Beenox, a studio primarily known for its work on the Spider-Man and Call of Duty games. Expect to play it in June 21, 2019.

The Outer Worlds

Fallout: New Vegas and Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic II developer Obsidian announced a new game, The Outer Worlds, during The Game Awards. It's a single-player RPG set in a sci-fi world, and it looks really intriguing. The game is being published by Grand Theft Auto parent company Take-Two's new indie label, Private Division. This relationship remains intact despite Obsidian getting acquired by Microsoft recently.

The Monster Hunter-like RPG, Dauntless, is coming to PlayStation 4 and Xbox One following its launch on PC. It is expected to arrive as a free download on these platforms in April 2019, when it will also become available through Epic Games' newly announced store on PC. Phoenix Labs has also said Dauntless is coming to mobile and Nintendo Switch later in 2019.

The Last Campfire

In a surprise move, Hello Games has a new project that isn't No Man's Sky cooking. Developed by the creative duo behind LostWind, The Last Campfire follows the last Ember as it searches for a way home. The Ember will encounter fellow lost souls as it makes its trek across strange wildernesses and, along the way, may also find meaning. While The Last Campfire doesn't have any console platforms announced yet, it is available to add to Steam Whishlists, effectively confirming it'll be on PC at the very least. A release date has not been announced.

Anthem Demo

BioWare's next big game, Anthem, is set for release in February 2019, but ahead of that it is giving people a chance to get an early taste of the game in two demos. The first will be exclusive to VIPs and will be available to pre-order customers from January 25 until January 27. The second demo will be open to everyone, and accessible from February 1 until February 3. BioWare has said that this is a slice of the experience from the middle of the game, and should give players a good feel for how Anthem will play.

A new game from the creators of Ark: Survival Evolved, Atlas is an ambitious-looking PC and console MMO featuring ship battles, mythological creatures, combat, and more. The PC edition is launching next week, while a console version is coming in 2019 through the Xbox One Game Preview program.

Following earlier reports, BioWare officially confirmed a new Dragon Age game at The Game Awards through a brief teaser trailer. The video featured slow pans across a few artifacts, and a hashtag that likely hints at a central story figure. It said, "The Dread Wolf Rises."

New PUBG Map

A brand-new PUBG map, Vikendi, was announced during The Game Awards. A snowy map, Vikendi adds a new snowmobile vehicle, while players will leave traceable footprints in the snow, which will seemingly have an effect on your ability to hide. The map is playable on test servers on PC with a release for Xbox One and PS4 coming January 2019. The map was first teased at E3 2018 and originally scheduled to come to both PC and Xbox One in Winter 2018.

New Ancestors Gameplay

The new game from Assassin's Creed creator Patrice Desilets and his new studio Panache Digital Games finally got a proper gameplay trailer at The Game Awards. Environmental diversity is one of the big features as you explore the jungles and savannahs of Africa while surviving the harsh ecosystems and fighting off predators. You'll take part in multiple generations of human ancestry from the early apes to Lucy, the closest and earliest relative of humans.

Mortal Kombat 11

In a surprise announcement, Mortal Kombat creator Ed Boon appeared on stage at The Game Awards to officially announce Mortal Kombat 11. The game launches on April 23, 2019, and developer NetherRealm revealed a brutal new trailer for the game, too.

Devil May Cry 5

A free demo for Capcom's Devil May Cry 5 will be available tomorrow, December 7, Microsoft announced at The Game Awards. Not only that, but the Bloody Palace mode will return for the fifth mainline entry in the series. Bloody Palace will be introduced as a free update for Devil May Cry 5 in April 2019. A new trailer also aired during The Game Awards.

Xbox Winter of Arcade

Microsoft is bringing back one of its most popular promotions, with a slight twist. This month it will kick off the Winter of Arcade, a collection of nine hand-picked indie games releasing throughout December. Those include Monster Boy and the Cursed Kingdom, Mutant Year Zero, Subnautica 1.0, Ashen, Hello Neighbor: Hide and Seek, Kingdom: Two Crowns, Desert Child, Below, and Donut County. To sweeten the pot, each one you purchase after your first will net you a $5 Xbox or Microsoft Store gift card, up to $40 total.

Rage 2 Release Date

At The Game Awards, Bethesda released a brand-new trailer for the over-the-top open-world game. The video showed off some of the wild things you'll be able to do in the sequel, while it also confirmed a release date: May 14. The game is in development at Just Cause studio Avalanche Studios in association with id Software.

Persona's Joker Coming To Smash

Joker from Persona 5 will be a DLC character for Nintendo's just-launched Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. There will be four other characters in the Challenger Pack 01, but there is no word yet on who they are. Keep checking with GameSpot for more.

Fortnite's The Block

One of the big Fortnite announcements at The Game Awards tonight was The Block. A new dedicated area for player-created content mode with the new Creative mode, this are will showcase some of the best community-made content. It's already in the game. When The Block came to Fortnite, it flattened Risky Reels.
