All 100-Plus Xbox One Backwards-Compatible Games Revealed

Check out the initial list of supported games, while "hundreds" more are coming later.

As promised, Microsoft has announced the full lineup of Xbox 360 games that will be playable on Xbox One through backwards compatibility when the feature arrives on November 12. As you can see in the list below, the bulk of these games (as expected) come from Microsoft's own library. A handful of big-name third-party publishers with games on the list are also featured, including Electronic Arts, Ubisoft, Sega, Bethesda, and Disney.

Call of Duty: Black Ops II and Red Dead Redemption, the two most-requested games for backwards compatibility on the Xbox Feedback site, are nowhere to be seen in this list. In fact, there are no games at all from Activision or Take-Two, which is the parent company of 2K Games and Rockstar Games. But games those publishers (and possibly others) are indeed coming, just not right away.

"You can expect new Xbox One backward compatible games to be announced on a regular basis, starting in December," Microsoft said in a statement. "More titles are on the way, including fan favorites like Halo Reach, Halo Wars, Call of Duty: Black Ops, Bioshock, Bioshock 2, Bioshock Infinite, and Skate 3."

Unfortunately for fans, there is no word yet if Red Dead Redemption and Call of Duty: Black Ops II will be supported in the program. For now, check out the complete list of initially supported titles below.

No Caption Provided

Microsoft also reminds fans that all future Xbox 360 Games With Gold titles (starting this month) will play on Xbox One. In all, Microsoft will add "hundreds" of new Xbox 360 titles to the service over time.

Backwards compatibility officially arrives for Xbox One on November 12 as part of the console's New Xbox One Experience dashboard update. Microsoft has high hopes for the feature, as it--along with Microsoft's lineup of games and more--is expected to help boost Xbox One sales this holiday.

Glad this capability exists and that they plan on supporting it with more and more games as time goes on.

I'll be very interested in how many people end up actually playing these older games after the initial excitement wears off.

@paulogy: do you know if games look or feel different on Xbox one. I still have my Xbox 360 and am curious but have not tried this new feature yet.

I know it is tough being a new gamer as most of you commenters are. Surely, anyone who isn't new to Xbox knows this is exactly how backwards compatibility was on Xbox 360 when it first rolled out. It's okay though your mom will be home in 3 hours for a hug and some warm milk.

@huntsmith19: chill out...its not Microsofts fault. Its the publishers decision in the end to allow BC on X1.

MS has its emulation down perfectly, so all these games you want....well blame Rockstar and EA

Why release Fallout 3 but, not New Vegas or Skyrim? Im pretty sure Skyrim was not too far behind Red Dead Redemption.

@slipknot201q: Releasing Fallout 3 was a marketing decision so they could pair it with Fallout 4. They'll probably release the other games you want...if Bethesda isn't releasing any new games and when they are certain that everyone has played Fallout 4.

obviously these publisher don't want you to be so busy playing old games that you neglect new ones.

It seems like they are bringing old titles that didn't push the 360 hardware that much. I've seen the thing about emulation taking twice as much power (and Xone not having twice the power of 360). I wonder if they are only going to be able to do older games due to lack of emulation power. If that wasn't the case, wouldn't they bring some better games out at launch of this backwards compatibility ruse. Gears of War was great for its time, but that thing looks butt ugly if you go play it now. If I wanted to play it again I would definitely go for the remaster. Couldn't stand it otherwise.

@forester057: This seems more like a case of publishers being stingy with allowing relatively new games to be BC. The presence of Halo Reach, Bioshock Infinite and Gears of War 3/Judgement indicates to me that Xbox One BC is at least capable of running newer AAA games. Perhaps some of these publishers think that their new games would be better suited with a rerelease or remaster rather than BC, and are therefore hesitant to offer them up as free downloads for people who own them on 360?

small list. i thought all games would be compatible since it emulates the 360 1:1

theres just nothing on that list i would ever go back and play. They are missing the games i would have wanted to work on the xbox one.

Does anyone know if youll be able to download 360 games from the Xbox one store or will you have to go to the 360 store through the emulation?

I really saw this as an opportunity to replace my 360 with a One but I'm sad to say of the games I wanted to keep, only Shadow Complex made the list.

Without Lost Odyssey, Blue Dragon, Dante's Inferno and some others there is, for me, no compelling reason to get an XboxOne. Hopefully they'll expand the list in the future because the idea is great.

@Acheron18: Most people get a new gen console to play new gen games on. So you want to get an Xone to play old games on it? You know they won't play better or anything, right? Its will be the same frame rate/resolution as xbox 360 and everything. So why don't you just keep playing your 360?

And that list right there is all the free GwG games announced ahead of schedule. let's hope Microsoft doesn't pull another stunt on consumers by not providing current gen games in that program for X1 owners leaving them all to slum with last gen titles instead.

I really thought they might pull out all of the stops with this feature, we are close to Christmas and it isn't a time you want to be making a misstep. While it is better to have some BC than none, I can't help but feel they hyped the feature up too much and failed to deliver on what was, at least implicitly, promised and a feature that is a disappointment can be more harmful than no feature at all. The reason the PS4 is running away with sales isn't because it is a brilliant console, it is because of all the mistakes Microsoft and Nintendo are making. I mean I'm still waiting for how the cloud is magically going to make the XOne a stronger console...

@timmerous: You got that right. It wasn't that Playstation won. It was that they listened to the people who play games (i.e. the people who buy consoles). Oh and they spent their console money on better game performance. About that cloud BS... well you see, everyone screamed bloody murder about it having to be online to function so they removed that feature. So a game can't use that feature unless the game requires a constant online connection (which many don't want). So I think they mothballed that with the big dreams of Kinect and TV integration. Too much wasted hardware inside the Xone (thing is freaking huge). Halo master chief collection was a blast though (seriously!). Halo 1 and 2 never dreamed of looking and playing so smoothly and all with glorious split screen co-op (he said angrily because he can't buy Halo 5 to play with family).

@forester057: I remember the backlash on the E3 conference, but the entire bit about using the cloud to improve performance was complete bobbins anyway. The cloud was a buzzword around then and I just think they wanted to impress the non-technically minded by including it in their presentation. People still laugh about it now, not because they did a u-turn, but because it was grade A bull. Looking at today's news with Microsoft hyping up their new OS I think they would do well to stop and learn a little humility.

I knew this would happen. This is where I stop trusting Microsoft with anything they say. They are just a money-hungry corporation that tries to fool the users at every turn in order to squeeze more money out of them. I could've sworn that most of the games would be the small indie type. And they hyped it up as if every awesome game would now come to Xbox One. What a load of crap. Not even Red Dead Redemption (the one chosen by the fans).

Lol. So just buy the Rare Replay game and that will take out a chunk of this bc list. (And it won't have to be backwards compatible since its for the Xbox one already). Then just go buy Sonics Ultimate Genesis Collection for the second chunk of this list. And then throw in a few arcade games and a few other games no one cares about. I love Xbox and I support them. But this wouldn't make me want to buy an Xbox one if I didn't already have one and a bunch of 360 games I might've missed out on. If Rare Replay didn't make people rob the stores of Xbox ones then this list won't really make them anymore excited. Especially when you can get the rest of the games packed on a disc for the PS3 for $10 on eBay. Minus a few that no one cares about anyways. Lol. I was sorta hoping for Fable Anniversary to be on this list. First game I looked for. Then was immediately disappointed to see Fable 2. I'll be even more disappointed if I see Fable 3 on the next list instead of Fable Anniversary. Their list is a little lazy if you really take a look at it.

Ninja Gaiden not on the list, of course. **** Koei Tecmo. At least there are 16 excellent games on the list.

Protrip - They said they're adding more. They'll add more.

I don't mean to preach mustard race too much but you have obvious, cheaper options:

A) Keep your 360. Or buy a new one. The most you'll pay is 200 and that's for a brand new one, if you suck at shopping.

B) 95% of the games people are listening are on PC.

Stop being terminally unimpressible spoiled wankers and be happy that MS is still in tryhard mode for you.

To all these people complaining:

1. This is the first batch. Many others will be pumping out within the next year.

2. Its not really MS's fault. Its the developers and publishers'.

@thetravman: Um. The games you're referring to are arcade titles like Doom, Doom 2, Castle Crahsers, Pacman, Battleblock theatre and such. They're excellent games, and very few of them indie. The only shovelware on that list is like lumines and keflings. And Viva pinata.
