Alien: Isolation Never Got a VR Version, But Alien: Covenant Will

Alien: Covenant will be getting a VR companion experience at some point this year.

As reported by The Verge, the virtual reality app is being produced by the film's director, Ridley Scott, who also directed the original Alien in 1979. It's apparently a collaboration between Scott's production company RSA Films, VR production house MPC VR, and Twentieth Century Fox's in-house VR department, the Fox Innovation Lab. The latter describes the experience as "a dread-inducing journey into the depths of the Alien universe." There's currently no news on which platforms the experience will be available on.

This isn't the first time the Alien universe has been playable in VR. Alien: Isolation, the 2014 Creative Assembly game, had a pre-release VR demo, but that never materialised into a final commercial product. We awarded the final, non-VR game a 6 in our Alien: Isolation review.

Alien: Covenant, meanwhile, hits theaters on May 19. It recently got an action-packed first trailer, and director Ridley Scott explained why he'll never make a superhero movie.
