The team behind Alien: Isolation have frequent discussions about the direction of a potential sequel, according to the game's lead developer.

Alien: Isolation, which was developed at UK studio The Creative Assembly, shipped on consoles and PC in October and was generally well received among most critics. It is unclear how many copies the game sold, however, nor is there much to indicate whether publisher Sega identifies enough commercial potential for a sequel.

But Gary Napper, a lead developer on the original, says his team is already discussing how the studio would approach Alien Isolation 2.

"The plot for a sequel is a daily topic in the studio sometimes," Napper said in an interview with AVPGalaxy. [PLOT SPOILERS FOLLOW]

"People have their own ideas for where it should go, our writers have some solid concepts and yes, we do have a great opportunity to continue her story," he added.

“I personally think that Amanda did not get infected in the hive, as when she wakes, the closest egg remains closed.”

Asked whether a potential sequel would be more action-oriented, a la James Cameron’s Aliens, Napper appeared unconvinced that would be the right approach.

"I think the action-oriented Aliens style game is very different from what Isolation is. If we made a sequel I would like to stick to the same terrifying single Alien approach but do more with the environment and interactivity within it."

Although many publications offered strong recommendations for Alien Isolation, other critics aired reservations. GameSpot's Alien Isolation review wrote that the game "provides us a glimpse into a future that holds the Alien game you've always wanted. It is not, however, the vessel that carries you there."

Alien Isolation is my favourite game, and I think the studio did a fantastic job.

It definitely needs a sequel, the ending was too much of a 'sequel-baiter’.They just need to be careful how they do it as not to ruin the reputation of the first game and give it the ending it deserves.
I think if it did come back, this is how I think the plot should play out…

-Weyland Yutani coming to Sevastopol because they have noticed that the comms satellite has changed position
-Notice Sevastopol crash to planet and see Amanda floating through space
-Story starts where you see the light in her helmet, and it is the Weyland Yutani ship, it picks her up
-She discovers that they have already picked up the alien that she ejected from the Torrens or they spacewalk to the Torrens as Amanda wants to see the fait of her crew and one of the crew of the Weyland Yutani ship takes a sample that got onboard with the final alien then you finally see what happened to Verlaine
-They take you back to a ship where you go through a similar trial to Ellen Ripley in Aliens now Amanda is against the company after finding out from Apollo that Weyland Yutani owned Sevatopol after the alien arrived
-The specimen escapes on the current ship and is rampaging about killing them (they have no decent guns)
-Amanda co-oordinates the assault on the alien as she has experience (more ties in with Ellen), but she only does this with the assurance that the company will tell her where her mother is
-Main game content of trying to capture the alien
-Amanda successfully co-oordinates an attack to destroy the alien, perhaps pushing it out the airlock like Ellen at the end of Aliens
-Weyland Yutani tells Amanda that Ellen has been sent out with the Colonial Marines to help a colony that has been attacked by the alien creatures
-She goes mad at them and they agree to take Amanda to Ellen, as Burke needs someone to impregnate with the specimen he has acquired, but is reluctant to do it to the people he has come out with
-There are problems aboard Amanda's ship and their journey is delayed so Burke is forced to try and impregnate Ellen/Newt
-Burke's plan fails and the final events of Aliens starts to happen
-Ripley, Hicks and Bishop escape on the Sulaco but Weyland Yutani do not replay the message to Amanda as Burke has failed to collect a specimen for them and they hope that Amanda and the Weyland Yutani team with her might
-Ellen leaves as Amanda arrives on the planet
-Amanda to try and find Ellen just as Ellen drops the nuke and kills Amanda

I think something along those lines (kind of like the Stasis Interrupted DLC for Colonial Marines - sorry for mentioning it…) would be really good, just as long as they kept it short and didn’t make it too long like Isolation.
What do people think?

Great game. I just hope in the next one they'll take out the Joes and the parts with the hostile humans.

Those parts were more annoyances and frustrations than anything.

The tasty meat of the game is when its just you and the alien going toe to toe. Give me more of THAT.

They struck gold with this game, and fingers crossed they can make it happen again.

I really liked Alien: Isolation.

The one thing I didn't like was the endgame......because goddamn, that took MUCH longer than it needed to be.

This should be GOTY easily, despite the crappy review from Gamespot. I mean really, let's trash a game because it isn't subjectively "perfect" and totally miss everything good about it (mood, immersion, sound, stealth, survival).

As for a sequel, I don't care what it is. Take my monies already. :)

Why not call it Aliens and throw more of them at you? That way we wont have to put up with a boring game about opening doors and walking around doing nothing. Maybe fix all the glitches and the terrible character models too, maybe make an interesting story this time around and fix the shoddy animations?

In fact don't bother CA, all you create is lackluster broken games.

one of, if not the, best game of the year. in many ways an intelligent and chilling masterpiece.

i loved the amazing art design and refreshing gameplay. at times the action set pieces dragged on. i'd be inclined to dial down the flamethrower. and please don't add more weapons. what made this game so unique was its story driven horror. the cat and mouse. the terror of not being able to kill the monster.

please, for the love of god, stick to these principles and don't add more guns. please don't go the way of Dead Space and sell out to the masses.

<< LINK REMOVED >> lol How is run-and-hide genre ''refreshing'' ? The only thing you get to do in the damn game is stare at your motion tracker or open doors. I dont see how a game where you hide from a lifeless roboticly badly-coded 2 legged alien thats been around for over 3 decades which hsould be crawling on ceilings and smelling you from the other end of the ship can be scary. Truly people who praise this crap never played much games in their lives and are easily entertained. SEGA AvP 1 and 2 and AvP 2010 are the only games where Aliens should be mentioned.

Let's all stop discussing whether or not we want an Isolation 2, because the game is not for lostn. When lostn doesn't like a game, there's no reason to talk about a potential sequel. He is, after all, the only being in the entire world that actually matters. We should all bow down to his wisdom, and accept him for what he is; A god amongst men. His opinion is the only one that matters.

You reused my quip? That's a new one, I've never seen that before. Normally I don't talk to people like this, but your ego is barely contained in your messages you cretin!
You, not everyone else who shares your opinion, no "you", would have everyone who liked the first game to stop talking about a potential sequel.
When you're not going to buy it, your opinion doesn't matter. You're not a customer anymore. We're talking about interested parties here, and you're not one of them, unless they want to change things around so you'd actually be interested in the sequel, which is very likely, because they do want to make money. Either way, you are trying to rob yourself and/or everyone else who might also like a sequel of a good experience by telling people to stop talking about a sequel. That strikes me as utterly egotistical.
Jesus!

<< LINK REMOVED >><< LINK REMOVED >> I can only assume you want sequels to every crappy game made, to continue being discussed. Including games like Ryse or Knack. Because someone out there will want them, and I'm only one person who won't buy it and therefore doesn't matter. I like this imaginary deluded little world you live in where bad games deserve a chance.

Considering how worked up you've been getting over the fact that I don't like the game and don't want a sequel, I suspect you actually worked as a developer on the game.

"Either way, you are trying to rob yourself and/or everyone else who might also like a sequel of a good experience by telling people to stop talking about a sequel."

Think about it this way. If they don't make a sequel, they could have made something else that might be even better. By wanting them to make a sequel, you'd be robbing yourself and other people of an experience that might be even better. That's what I'd rather they make. Something else, which I might actually buy. I'm not telling them to sit on their behinds, do nothing, or quit their jobs which seems to be what you're implying with your logic. The simple truth is, if they don't make one game, they'll make some other game, which might or might not be better. There is no 'robbing' here. If you can be robbed of a sequel, I can be robbed of some other game they would have been working on had they not been making a sequel.

I mean, would you seriously want a sequel to Knack or would you rather that studio made something else? Or do you think every game, no matter how crappy deserves an equal opportunity for a sequel?

Anyway, I've wasted enough brain cells on you. I'm going to leave it at that.

Normally I wouldn't repeat myself, but somehow you seem to need special attention.

Let's go back to the very basics. Do try to keep up.

When you don't like a particular game, it doesn't mean that I wouldn't like it either. This is something called subjectivity. It's what makes everyone different. When I like a specific game, then I would like to see a sequel. In fact, I would like to see a sequel more than you would.

You have once again managed to make yourself appear completely self centered. By your logic everyone making games that aren't for you, should stop making those games, and start making games that are for you. I didn't play Knack or Ryze, but I suppose the argument could be made, that there are people out there that liked those games. Yeah I think they should have a chance to continue enjoying the games that they like. I for instance don't like Fifa very much... Doesn't mean that they should stop making Fifa altogether. What if the table was reversed? You liked a game that didn't sell particularly well, wouldn't you want them to continue working on the sequel?

And no, you're not telling them to sit on their behinds and do nothing. You're telling them that the customers that like their game aren't as important as you are. By the way, why don't we extend your logic to other media? Can we please have writers and movie directors stop working on what they are doing, and start working for lostn, because he is so damned important! Does that make sense? No of cause it doesn't, because it's bullshit!

We like different things man. We can't all like what you are liking. Didn't your parents teach you this? I can't believe I have to be the one to teach you about sympathy and empathy!

Furthermore you are talking as if Isolation was an objectively bad game. You can't say it's objectively bad. That statement is based on your subjective feelings towards the game.

Is the reason for you "leaving it at that", that you can see how flimsy and egotistical your own arguments are? I do sincerely hope that you find it in you to reply, because it seems like you aren't leaving because you feel like you've "wasted enough brain cells", but rather because you have debunked your own arguments, and you are now trying to back out with some semblance of your honor intact.

A worthwhile successor, but it should be imperative that an asymmetrical MP mode be developed. The lack of which in the last game was very disheartening. I enjoyed AI on the first 2 run throughs. However, highest difficulty proved more of a test in frustration and reloads than entertainment/challenge.

I would rather have a Action/Survival Horror Aliens game in the style of Dead Space maybe. The film Aliens in fact complements Alien very well, so why not the game? I don't see the point in repeating something that was already done. Just make more DLC.

I finally got to finish Alien the other day. Man did it drag on and on. I think a sequel could prove to be a good idea. Id like to see the tools get used in more interesting ways. I personally love returning to areas and opening doors i couldnt before, but this game takes backtracking a bit too far. Id also like to have aliens you could kill. Id say keep the invincible one for tension, but it was lame to only have the ability to kill those small spider like creatures. Just wasnt really fun to kill much in the game.

At least they have the correct mindset, its not an action game, glad it won't turn into a Dead Space when each iteration was more action packed, don't know why people need explosions each 10 minutes to keep the interest.
