Alan Wake 2 is almost here, and at Gamescom Opening Night Live, developer Remedy Entertainment had a fresh slice of spooky gameplay to show off for its upcoming survival-horror game. We previously saw how things are going for new co-protagonist, Saga Anderson. Now, we finally join Alan in the Dark Place to see how rough his life has been over the past 13 years.

Alan's prison-like existence is set in a twisted version of New York City, all thanks to his own memories and psyche being used against him. Blending live action with in-engine gameplay, the end result is a dream-like mix, as intended by Remedy. And there are a lot of Easter eggs and clues for Alan Wake fans to spot.

In the 13 years since the original game first launched, Alan Wake 2's journey saw some fascinating shifts along the way. The original pitch for the game included TV-style live action cutscenes--an idea that would be featured in Quantum Break--and other ideas for the sequel that were ultimately used for Control.

Alan Wake 2 will also benefit from full ray tracing, Nvidia DLSS 3.5, and Reflex, Nvidia announced.

Eventually landing on a vision that combined strong horror themes with influences like Twin Peaks and the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Remedy officially announced Alan Wake 2 during the 2022 edition of The Game Awards.

For more details on the game, which has been slightly delayed from October 17 to October 27, you can check out GameSpot's 30-minute Alan Wake 2 preview and a gallery of 11 clues we spotted in its gameplay reveal trailer.
