Gabriel Luna has been cast to play Tommy in HBO Max's upcoming The Last of Us television series, according to Deadline. Luna will be a lead in The Last of Us alongside Pedro Pascal (who's playing Joel) and Bella Ramsey (who's playing Ellie).

Luna is best known for his portrayal of Robbie Reyes, aka Ghost Rider, in Marvel's Agents of SHIELD. He has also played Gabriel/REV-9 in Terminator: Dark Fate and the recurring role of Miguel Gilb in True Detective.

Based on the game of the same name, The Last of Us takes place in a world 20 years after a virus has caused the collapse of modern civilization. The story sees smuggler Joel being hired to transport a young girl, Ellie, outside of an oppressive military-led quarantine zone and across the countryside to a group called the Fireflies. The two find themselves having to depend on one another in order to survive a world filled with dangerous human survivors and zombie-like infected.

The Last of Us game director Neil Druckmann and Chernobyl creator Craig Mazin will be the show's co-writers. Speaking to IGN at SXSW 2021, Druckmann said that a few of the episodes in The Last of Us will "deviated greatly from the [game's] story."
