Microsoft has announced that Age of Mythology, its upcoming 3D real-time strategy game, will be released in September 2002. The game, which was previously scheduled for release in the second quarter of 2002, is in development at Ensemble Studios, the developer that created the popular Age of Empires strategy games.

Microsoft also released a video clip showing off the Norse, one of the three playable civilizations that will be featured in the game. Age of Mythology will let players assume the role of the Norse, the ancient Greeks, or the Egyptians. The game is set in a world where gods and mythological creatures take part in the struggle between the three civilizations. It is built on an advanced 3D engine that supports special effects such as fluid ocean waves, waterspouts, lava, tornados, earthquakes, and smoke. The engine also supports battles between hundreds of units on the same screen.
