AEW's Sonny Kiss Reflects On Match With Cody And One-Year Anniversary Of TNT's Dynamite

It's been a breakout year for the All Elite Wrestling performer, and he discusses how he feels about it.

When indy wrestler--and former Lucha Underground performer--Sonny Kiss signed to All Elite Wrestling in early 2019, he was immediately put into the spotlight, as wrestling fans were exceptionally excited for a new wrestling promotion. Then in October 2019, TNT launched its weekly wrestling show AEW Dynamite, and Kiss found himself on TV.

At the Fight for the Fallen PPV back in July, Kiss found himself in the spotlight again as he faced Cody for the TNT Championship. "I was in a big title match," Kiss told GameSpot. "I had gone from doing [matches on AEW Dark] to doing that. So that was a huge moment for me. And I knew I had to knock it out of the park. I love the match. I definitely wish I did some things a little bit differently in the match but, you know, it's progressing on national television program. I'm 26 right now. I'm not going to reach my ceiling now. And if you reach your ceiling at 26, then guess what? There's nowhere else to go."

Kiss is currently tag-teaming with Joey Janela, working their way through the division. The new team has a lot of stiff competition with FTR as current AEW Tag Team Champions, and the Best Friends, Young Bucks, and Natural Nightmares leading in the AEW rankings.

One thing that's for sure different compared to other wrestling companies is that AEW kicked off with a roster filled with indy talent that brought in a wide range of styles and experience levels. And because of that, Kiss grew as a wrestler over the past year. "I'm actually happy the world got to see my growth on national television, which is really cool. Because you can definitely see night and day from just being the timid 25-year-old that I was, to now, amazing at 26," Kiss joked. "No, but seriously, it's really cool to let the world see my growth on national television."

The anniversary of AEW Dynamite airs on TNT tonight at 8 PM /7 PM CT. Every title will be on the line for the show. Jon Moxley will defend the AEW Championship against Lance Archer, Hikaru Shida will defend the AEW Women's Championship against Big Swole, FTR will face Best Friends for the AEW Tag Team Championship, and Cody will battle Orange Cassidy for the TNT Championship. In addition, other AEW favorites will be in action like Kip Sabian, Miro, and MJF.
