Oscar-winning actor Adrien Brody has revealed that he had a chance to appear in Peter Jackson's The Lord of the Rings series but turned down the role in a move he now seemingly regrets.

Speaking to GQ, Brody said he was in the mix for a Hobbit-like character, but he was after something else, and he ultimately passed on appearing in the movie. Seeing the film later with a girlfriend, Brody had regrets.

"They were casting The Lord of the Rings. It was some Hobbit-like character, surely ... I was looking for something else. I remember seeing Lord of the Rings in the theater with an ex-girlfriend. She turned to me and she said, 'You passed on The Lord of the Rings!' I remember feeling so stupid," he said.

Brody did get to work with Jackson in the end, as he starred as Jack in 2005's King Kong. Brody said, "I don't think I would have gotten the role of Jack in Peter's movie" if he took the Lord of the Rings gig (via The Hollywood Reporter).

Brody won an Academy Award for Best Actor in a Leading Role for The Pianist. He will be seen next in Wes Anderson's The French Dispatch, which releases on October 22 in the US.

As for The Lord of the Rings, the series remains very popular. A 31-disc 4K collector's edition releases in November, while Amazon's highly anticipated TV series premieres in September 2022. A new animated film focused on Rohan is also in the works.
