Activision's Skylanders Netflix Show Premieres in October, Features Famous Voices

Chances are you will recognize some of the voices in Skylanders Academy.

Skylanders Academy, the new Netflix show based on Activision's toys-to-life series, will premiere on October 28, the streaming network has announced. It comes from Activision's newly formed Activision Blizzard Studios, which also has plans for multiple Call of Duty movies.

As announced previously, Skylanders Academy's showrunner is Eric Rogers, who wrote for Fox's Futurama; he celebrated the premiere date announcement on Twitter today. Justin Long (Dodgeball) voices Spyro, while Breaking Bad's Jonathan Banks portrays Eruptor. Funny guy Norm McDonald plays Glumshanks, while High School Musical's Ashley Tisdale voices Stealth Elf. Susan Sarandon and Metallica's James Hetfield have roles, though they are unspecified.

Here is the official description for Skylanders Academy: "The series follows the heroic adventures of the Skylanders team, a group of heroes with unique elemental skills and personalities who travel the vast Skylands universe, protecting it from evil-doers and showing the next wave of Academy cadets how to do things the 'Skylander way.'"

Skylanders Academy Season 2 will premiere in 2017, according to Skylanders fansite Skylands Academy. You can see a full gallery of images from the show here on the site.

The next Skylanders game is October's Skylanders Imaginators, which is due out for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Wii U, PlayStation 3, and Xbox 360. A special Crash version of the game for PS4 comes with the character Crash Bandicoot and his nemesis, Dr. Neo Cortex.
