Activision extends Sing Hero trademark

Publisher this week requests and receives permission to extend trademark for unannounced project.

Activision this week requested and received permission to extend its trademark for Sing Hero, a project that the company has not announced.

The United States Patent & Trademark Office (USPTO) received Activision's request for an extension on September 3 and approved said extension later that day.

Activision originally trademarked Sing Hero in March 2009. Earlier this year, images reportedly from a Pi Studios version of the game surfaced, though Activision never commented officially.

Just because Activision has a trademark for Sing Hero does not mean the company has plans to ship a game with that name. The company has also registered titles like "Drum Hero," "Keyboard Hero," "Guitar Villain," and "Drum Villain."

Activision's "Hero" franchises--namely Guitar Hero, Band Hero, and DJ Hero--have been dormant of late, though the publisher has confirmed that Guitar Hero is not dead, but rather taking time to reinvent itself before returning.

One would think that the teats of the music hero series have dried up, but they added villain to it so I guess they're going to milk it for the dried up powdered milk at this point.

Why did Activision prolong a trademark that they haven't announced or even said anything about? Because it's the Sing Hero gamers deserve, but not the one they need right now.

Well it's better than trying to sell a bunch of plastic guitars, drums and keyboards. Most people rather karaoke and dance anyways. Combine singing with optional dancing and you might have something there that is cheap, affordable and enjoyable to the masses. I STILL sing with rock band, forgoing the instruments and costs along with it from the get go.

I'd love to see a Guitar Hero successor for the next gen...

But NOT a 'Sing Hero'... just thinking about that gives me the heebie jeebies! It's just a euphemism for: karaoke. Not exactly popular in the USA, or England, or France, or Italy, or the whole world anywhere outside of Japan really.

@DawgByte2 Um sorry you can't sing? Been doing that sort of thing since I started drinking at collage bars in the early 90s =) Still do with Rock Band 3. Never bought a single instrument. Just previously singer games were more for girls then guys before that.

@Kinguard73 In collage bars, do you cut out photos and glue them while drinking beer? For real, this could be pretty fun in a party setting, if done right. I can't sing a bit, but if you give me a few alcoholic beverages, anything goes.

@DawgByte2 then you are wrong. It's like saying "DDR is a fail, Japan only". Karaoke is pretty popular - I mean, why GH added singing then?

Just no more "BAND" themed Heros.

Guitar Hero 2 and 3 was the best in series.
