The highly regarded 2022 horror movie Barbarian is getting a video game adaptation. Diversion3 Entertainment, which worked on Friday the 13th: The Game and Evil Dead: The Game, is developing the Barbarian game alongside New Regency Pictures. It's in development for console and PC, according to the announcement from Bloody-Disgusting.

Those who have seen the movie might be wondering how the film might be adapted into a game, and we don't know the answer yet. But Diversion3's Tim Hesse said the game will "expand on the settings, characters, and creatures of Barbarian."

The movie is best experienced without knowing anything about the plot--but suffice it to say, things are not what they seem in Barbarian. We won't get into any story elements here. Hesse said the team at Diversion3 looks forward to exploring the movie's themes further in the game.

Barbarian the movie stars Georgina Campbell, Justin Long, Bill Skarsgard, Matthew Patrick Harris, and Richard Brake. There is no word yet on a release date for the game.

Barbarian was written and directed by Zach Cregger, who, up until that point in his career, was best known for being a founding member of the comedy troupe The Whitest Kids U' Know. The movie was praised by critics, and Cregger scored a big deal for his next movie, Weapons, which will star The Last of Us and Game of Thrones actor Pedro Pascal. Cregger is reported to have scored an eight-figure deal for the film.

Cregger previously co-wrote and co-directed 2009's low-budget Miss March movie with another WKUK member, Trevor Moore, who passed away in 2021.

Another scary movie that's becoming a video game is A Quiet Place. A game based on the series was scheduled for release in 2022, but that never happened, and the fate of the project is unknown.
