A Tale in the Desert coming soon

eGenesis announces that its innovative massively multiplayer RPG set in a world modeled after ancient Egypt will go live next month. First screens inside.

Pittsburgh-based eGenesis has today announced that A Tale in the Desert will be going live on February 15. The massively multiplayer role-playing game, which is set in a world modeled after ancient Egypt, is unusual within the genre in that it has a very definite set of goals for players, as well as an unfolding storyline. When the storyline is completed, eGenesis will restart the game with a new tale.

The object of the game is for players to create a perfect society by mastering what the developer calls the "Seven Disciplines of Man" by succeeding in a total of 49 different tests designed to promote thought and teamwork rather than combat. Tasks in the game include everything from gardening and sculpture to beer- and wine-making and a fireworks contest.

"Over the past three years, we have received significant critical acclaim from members of the media, industry peers, and nontraditional sources such as the US Department of Defense," said Andrew Tepper of eGenesis. "Now we look forward to broadening our base and changing the way the world perceives the massively multiplayer genre."

Interestingly, A Tale in the Desert also features an entirely player-driven legal system that effectively allows players to alter the rules of the game via voting points placed throughout the gameworld.

A Tale in the Desert will be free for download from its official Web site on February 15, and it includes a free trial period of 24 hours of game time or one month of service, whichever is fulfilled first. The cost of playing the game once the free trial has expired will be $13.95 a month. We'll bring you more information on A Tale in the Desert as it becomes available.
