A Spider-Man 2 Secret Room Might Be Hinting At Daredevil DLC

The upper (West Side) hand.

Like Insomniac's previous Spider-Man games, Marvel's Spider-Man 2 has a few Easter eggs dotted around New York City that players have begun discovering over the last couple of weeks. One in particular has fans speculating about what they can expect from the upcoming DLC, as this Easter eggs potentially references an insidious organization that has long been associated with Daredevil, Marvel's resident super-powered lawyer and man without fear.

In the Upper West Side part of the city, players can enter a building that has a hidden room inside of it. While you can't enter the room, you can hop over to the other side of the building and peer inside of it. For a bookstore, it does have an awful lot of firearms, swords, and cryptic symbols stashed inside of it.

Now where could that secret room be?
Now where could that secret room be?

This has sparked a discussion that the symbols could belong to The Hand, a secret cult of ninjas who are primarily associated with Daredevil and are keepers of forbidden arcane magics that allow them to resurrect the dead and twist their wills to serve the organization. Alternatively, you can also spot a symbol in one of the bookstore paintings that looks a lot like the pattern found on the Sanctum Sanctorum of Dr. Strange, a character who was referenced in the first Spider-Man game.

Additionally, magic is confirmed in Insomniac's Spider-Man universe and plays a pivotal role in one of the stages of Spider-Man 2, and there's a more direct Dr. Strange Easter egg at the end of that level. Interestingly, it was assumed that Matt Murdock, the secret identity of Daredevil, had vacated his Hell's Kitchen law firm as the plaque outside of that office was conspicuously empty:

How are you supposed to sue J Jonah Jameson for libel without a lawyer?

Until it wasn't, following this week's patch:

Ta-dah!
Ta-dah!

This could be a case of that texture not loading correctly, which has now been rectified in the patch, and probably isn't a sign of changes in Insomniac's Marvel universe. But if all signs do point toward The Hand and Daredevil making an appearance in the Spider-Man 2 DLC, then fans are in for treat. As street-level heroes, Daredevil and Spider-Man make for a great tag team, and we've already seen signs of the potential of this team-up with Yuri Watanabe, who now appears in the game as Wraith and can regularly be found dishing out some vigilante justice with her unique arsenal of weapons.

Then you've got The Hand, who make for excellent punching bags and can easily fill in as alternative enemies to Kraven's Hunters. 2018's Spider-Man game expanded its world with the City That Never Sleeps DLC--a trilogy of episodes that introduced Black Cat, Silver Sable, and Hammerhead to that world--so there is precedent for Daredevil and Spider-Man to cross paths. They've done it before in the '80s and '90s Spider-Man animated series, so a video game crossover isn't out of the question.

Add to that the confirmation that Insomniac's Wolverine game is set in the same universe as the Spider-Man games, and it looks like Earth-1048 is about to get more crowded with familiar Marvel faces.
