Here's something interesting. Developer Richard Rouse III (The Suffering, State of Decay, Sunset Overdrive) has announced a new '70s cult game called "The Church in the Darkness."

The game stars Rebecca and Isaac Walker, who are "persecuted for their radical beliefs" and lead their followers into the jungles of South America.

"There, in the isolation of Freedom Town, they can finally escape the injustice of the US and follow the true path of the righteous… but an outsider is in their midst," reads a line from the game's description.

Rebecca is voiced by Ellen McLain (GlaDOS in Portal) while John Patrick Lowrie (Team Fortress 2 Sniper) provides the voice of Isaac. McLain and Lowrie are married in real life.

The Church in the Darkness is inspired by real-life events and challenges players to infiltrate Freedom Town. As you'd expect, things probably won't go to plan.

"The Church in the Darkness is an action-infiltration game that delves into the radical movements of the 1970s," reads a line from the game's description. "As a former law enforcement officer, you have resolved to get into Freedom Town and check on your sister's son. But life in Freedom Town may not be what it seems."

Here's more from the game's description:

"Every playthrough of The Church in the Darkness offers a unique version of Freedom Town with different character personalities and a shifting narrative told through investigation, observation, and action. How dangerous are the Walkers? Who are your allies and enemies? How far will you go to uncover the truth and save these people?"

The Church in the Darkness is in development at new studio Paranoid Productions for PC/Mac, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One, and is due for launch in early 2017. We will have more information on the game in the future.
