45.7 million Wii Sports, 22.9 million Wii Plays sold

Nintendo reveals new stats for 27 first-party platinum sellers; Nintendogs hits 22.2 million, New Super Mario Bros. 18.4 million, Wii Fit 18.2 million, Mario Kart Wii 15.4 million.

Nintendo may be facing weakening demand in its home market, but its products continue to enjoy substantial demand in other regions across the globe. Yesterday, that demand came into focus when the publisher reported a 9.9 percent rise in its fiscal year earnings, to ¥1.83 trillion ($18.5 billion). A resounding clamor for software on both of Nintendo's best-selling platforms helped fuel that growth, with 197 million DS and 204 million Wii games sold during the period.

Nice shot!
Nice shot!

Today, Nintendo provided an update on sales figures for its first-party-published games, revealing that it now has 27 games that have broached the million-unit mark during its fiscal year. First among those best-sellers remains Wii Sports, which is sold as a stand-alone game in Japan but comes packed in with Nintendo's console in North America. The sports minigame compilation has now sold 45.7 million units since its November 2006 launch, easily outpacing Wii Remote pack-in Wii Play's 22.9 million units.

DS software sales offer a bit of a closer race in the best-selling game category. Nintendogs remains ahead of the pack, having now sold 22.2 million units through the publisher's fiscal year. However, New Super Mario Bros. and the original Brain Age aren't far off the animal-training simulator's heals, with the former having sold 18.4 million units and the latter at 17.4 million units. All three games have previously been the subject of hardware bundles.

A full list of Nintendo's million-unit sellers during the period can be found below.

Typical Nintendo behaviour..."we don't have $#!+ for games on the horizon...but look how many games we've sold in the past!" Keep it up guys. I'm sure there's still a lot of people you can sucker in. Oh and btw-if you want to see what Nintendo will have to say this year at E3, just read this article again cuz I'm sure that's all they'll have to say...as usual.

lol wii sports. I doubt any sane person would buy that game if it weren't bundled with the wii and if they did, they should stop buying games all together and keep smoking meth.

@wiifan001 We can find out though, it not hard. We are on a gaming website, we could do our own research just by using this website or have them do it for us. They have the age of everyone who is on here.

First of all congrats to Nintendo for proving most of the people (me included) wrong. Second of all even though they are market leaders right now even the most ardent Nintendo supporter can agree that other than games focused purely on casual market Nintendo isnt bothered to release any new mario, zelda, or kid icarus games on the Wii. They will release more of these party games because (unlike thier tradional fanbase) no matter what ratings or how bad the game is it can be guarteed that the casual crowd will make huge sales for thesegames e.g Wii Music. This years E3 press briefing from these guys will no different than last years. Expect some new Wii something this year.

As long as we're on the subject of Capcom: Capcom sold over 1 million with Resident Evil Umbrella Chronicles and Resident Evil 4: Wii Edition. Other than that, it didn't sell over 1 million with anything else- Mega Man 9, Okami , Zack & wiki (although Capcom strangely was pleased with sales with Zack & Wiki), and I can't think of anything else.

lol, needtogetalife is smarter than everyone here. Why? JUST ASK HIM! I thought I was just stating my 'opinion' on the Wii. Yes, it is good at what it does, but 'I' have no interest in it. My sisters family loves their Wii, my niece and nephew are 9 and 11. They play it all the time. Wanna know how many games they have? Three. That's it. My aunt and uncle bought one too. They like bowling....and that's it. My best friend was 'lucky' enough to get one at launch. He bought 4 games for it, before he traded it to someone for a beater car. A CAR. As I stated in my earlier post, if you like it then fine. Have fun waving your remote in the air, knock yourself out. I thinks it's nice that 9 year olds can play with grandma and have a good time, but these are not the type of consumers that drive the industry. That's just my opinion.

@MagicOneUp 80,000,000 Wii owners? over exaggerate much? 30,000,000 Wii owners didn't help Zack & Wiki and We Love Golf from bombing now did it. In fact, Capcom made more profit from a much lower fanbase on the PS3 with only 2 games, RE5 and SF4 which both AREN'T on Wii.

@Grammy34 Believe it or not there are a few moms on GS, whether they're soccer moms or not I know not. I agree that soccer moms don't care about the sales, but it's not the sales they're laughing about, it's the flaming/trolling comments about Nintendo's "problems." I'd think you'd be surprised at the number of men that play a DS and Wii Fit. Too bad there are no charts or figures I have for that but if there was I would predict that you'd find it quite surprising.

@ CorruptGamerGX yeah right dude, lets make games that YOU like to play and most at GS here, like the ps3 with it all glorified blu ray player, promised 'real' next gen craps, you think nintendo would be on top now? i wouldn't think so... if Capcom were to make games for Wii, there is a market of 80 million Wii owners out there might be interested in whereby on the ps3, you are limiting to say about 20 millions. i think Capcom and many others that shunned the 64' and the 'cube wants a bit of the lion's share. sony listens to you thats why its in a state that it is now...

@wiifan001 First off Soccer moms won't be on GS and they don't care if the Wii is out selling or is better then PS3 or 360. They buy off impulse which means if something on TV catches there eye they go and buy or their kid begs them for it. How many males between the ages of 17 and 100 own a DS and will admitedly choose and play Wii fit? NOT MANY..

@CorruptGamerGX: Let's analyze the reading comprehension. "When I said Nintendo doesn't need 3rd party support," I was talking about quantity, not quality. You didn't comprehend that part successfully. Next, Nintendo has not made any shovelware games, and nothing you do will change my mind or anyone else's mind. Their minds of everyone have already been made up by now. You'd think people would learn these things after 2+ years, but I guess haven't, which is ok because everyone learns at their own pace. :) Really, it's ok if people don't like the Wii, but it's really a sad position for someone who has to troll about it whenever some article is made about Nintendo doing successful. I would try a new habit, just a suggestion btw, is that you uplift whatever consoles you appreciate instead of tearing down the ones don't like. It may make you a happier person inestead of being miserable about constantly viewing the success of Nintendo. Go on now, try it. :)

Nintendo so far has done a great job at marketing their products to people who are not gamers and this played an important role in their success. They do indeed deserve this when comparing to how they did in the previous generation with the Gamecube which was the least sold console out of the 3.

First of all I would like to say good job Nintendo. I don't play my wii much cause I'm to lazy to play much of anything anymore, but I still like it. O and CorruptGamerGX I would like to point out that your wrong on 2 parts. 1 Nintendo has hit hardcore gamers, just latley they haven't had many hardcore games. when it first came out the games were awesome. second, Nintendo does way more with its money. first it has to Higher 2 asian guys, buy a small compact car, then give them 2 wii motes and have them walk up to random people's homes and say "wii would like to play" then drive away in the sunset.

wiifan001 The Wii is definitely not just for soccer moms and little kids. It's been about 2 1/2 years now and people STILL can't figure that out yet, and they won't give it a rest You forgot grandmas, tweens, bandwagon m----s and Nintendo's very own sheep. I think YOU'RE the one that doesn't get it. The only company that profits off this white brick is NINTENDO themselves. You would think the console with the highest sales would generate more sales from software, but that isn't the case for 3rd party companies except Crapcom of course. Out of the so-called 50,000,000 consumers that bought one, how much them truly bought it as a console to game on for years instead of watching the Wii Sports fad on TV and deciding to join the party for only 1 month? For a console so successful, 3rd parties are sure crawling on their knees towards PC, 360 and PS3 for some profit while Nintendo continues picking their teeth on top of a mountain of cash that ends up not being used for anything except more lame commercials promoting shovelware.

Nintendo are strong in games , because they know what the customer want . Just see the value of their share , before the Wii the share was 85 $ when the gamecube was the console . And after the Wii , at the first day to now the share cost just for one 450 $ .

@needtogetalife Have you ever heard of a debat. What ever happen to having friendly arguments. It not about changing someone mind, it's about open people eye to look at something a different way. Now not everyone takes it that way because most of the poeple on here are under the age 18 and are jst fan boys but that doesnt kill it for those who understand what these site are for. I do agree with most of your pionts but I do feel you can say which one is better, with putting emotion in it. It the one that apeals to everyone. not just the general public and not just the hardcore. Do I need to say which systemS that would be. The one that has what everyone can use. But other wise I like what you is saying although I don't think you gave the PS3 a chance because you would find it fun. I can give you a list of game for each system that will make a system fun and most on that list doesn't spend big money on selling there games and unless you look for them for your self and don't listen to everything in the media you won't find them. But anyway good points though

Congratulations Nintendough for stuffing shovelware down out throats for 2.5 years now. I can't believe you guys are patting Ninty on the back for releasing garbage that somehow sells millions when they don't deserve it. The Wii _____ trash line just never ends. Instead of releasing crap like Wii Play, Fit and Music, why can't games like Star Fox, a REAL Donkey Kong or F-Zero be released. I guess as long as the tweens, soccer moms and grandmas buy this ****, it'll give Nintendo more of a reason to churn out more garbage. Anyone else find it strange that Twilight Princess, the most overrated GC port the Wii has to offer isn't on the list while Link's Crossbow Training is? What about Metroid Prime 3? Forgot Mario Stupid Sluggers had to overshadow it with its casual presence and family friendly tacked-on controls. I guess Nintendo found a new formula now, shovelware + add-on peripherals = profit. So much for the old saying that hard work pays off

Too bad there are so few good games coming for Wii, only stupid casual party-mini-games and shovelware. The Wii is my least favorite console ever. How someone can own one as their main console is beyond me.

@Inconnux Do you understand what you are saying... First off the six axis control is already better then the Wii controller. So for one Sony is making there product better. The game cube was terrible. The controller was bad the games where the same from what they have always done. Mario and Zelda and the same thing with the Wii, so what is so innovative. Give credit where its due. They marketed well and they cought a break on being cheap in hard time. Thats it. Done talk about the Wii being superior to to 360 and PS3 cause it not better then the PS2 and original xbox. Poor Grafics, cartoon games, it for Children. Impressive sales but not impressive product that what the hype is about. A product like this would do this good, face that all it is is. This is not the end of these next gen systems, let the war end before declaring victory after one battle. See what happen in years to come cause another system won't be out for at least another 5 years.

You know, I always love watching how pathetic you people are who argue with other people that you are never going to see and are never going to be friends with. You're trying to win a fight when every argument is based upon personal opinion, yet you continue to try and change the other person's mind even though you know that they are in every way as stubborn as you. Here's the only fact that is an actual fact: The Wii, DS and Nintendo as a whole are doing great and will most likely dominate this console generation. Here's the personal opinions that are treated as facts for *insert arbitrary reason here*: The Wii is a good console, the Wii is a fad, the DS is a good console, the DS is a fad, Nintendo still care for the gamers, Nintendo is stupid. You can't say that the Wii is better than the PS3 or 360, it's just good at what it's built for, but it was built for a completely different type of gaming than the 360 and PS3, if two neighbours are comparing the fruit they have grown, how is it a fair comparison if one of them has an apple and the other an orange? But what's even better than knowing that I'm smarter than every person who gets in these arguments, is that those same people are going to try and twist my words against me. See, I'm not a fanboy, I don't own a PS3, but that's only because I don't want to spend the money on a console that has so little to offer my high standards, I play games that are fun, and fun does not pick a side, it does not confine itself to a console or company. But of course, like every other time I post something like this, I know it's pointless, as you who have been arguing with each other over your personal opinions are just going to read this, realise that I'm right and you're all leprous retards, then say some random cut 'n' paste "comeback", then assume you "won" because I have enough of a life that I don't wait for people to respond to my comments just so I can berate them for no adequate reason and didn't bother to reply within 5 minutes. Regards, ≈Roy

The Wii is still a joke in my eye. I have no desire to play any games on it other than the classics available for download. If you like it, fine but to me it's just rubbish. This will be the first Nintendo system that I will not buy. Sad.
