$40 Batman: Arkham Knight DLC Pass Revealed, Offers Six Months of Content

Warner Bros. and Rocksteady Studios on Tuesday announced a DLC Season Pass for their upcoming Caped Crusader game, Batman: Arkham Knight.

According to a message posted on Twitter, Arkham Knight's Season Pass will offer up new content for six months after the game's release in June, meaning through the end of the year.

This content will take the form of "story missions, supervillains, and more," the developer said.

A subsequent press release from Warner Bros. reveals that new Batmobile skins, "advanced" challenge maps, alternate character skins, and new drivable race tracks are also included with the Arkham Knight Season Pass.

A special Arkham Knight Premium Edition will also be available. This comes with the game and the DLC pass, and will be sold only through digital channels.

The Season Pass will cost $40, while the Premium Edition will run you $100.

Originally scheduled to launch in 2014, the new Arkham Knight release date is June 23 for Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC. Earlier this week, Rocksteady released a thrilling new trailer for the game that also confirmed it will have a Grand Theft Auto V-style character switch mechanic.

@captainwonton: there are two choices, permanently raise the price of videogames to around $100 due to inflation and the rising cost of game development, or create DLC passes and micro transactions. Personally, as much as this DLC practice of today p!sses me off, I prefer it over a permanent price increase because it gives me a choice. I don't buy DLCs, I don't buy season passes, and any other extra garbage.

@unreal849@greaseman1985@captainwonton: I guess for me it would depend on the game. If it was something like Skyrim or The Witcher, then sure I would pay $100 for the complete game. But if every game was a flat $100 there would be a lot of games I would no longer play that I would normally be interested in playing if it was still $60.

@xsonicchaos: Not really. I mean, Arkham's DLC has always been a little hit and miss, but it's not like the games themselves have been lacking. If you're worried about this season pass not being worth $40 (and who wouldn't be, before the game even comes out) don't buy it. Just wait for the DLC and decide if you want it piece by piece.

The "don't like it, don't buy it" attitude is much more worrisome to me than these DLC practices. We can choose to ignore and go with it, but is there a limit? Cause I'm starting to believe every game will have these season passes in the near future, most games will be early access and probably a lot of them with episodic content, I'm even more worried when they feed us the whole game dlc by dlc and we're gonna eat it up. They know this is our passion, it's not a vice, we can't just stop gaming, it's what we enjoy doing in our spare time, and they're taking advantage.
