4,200 GameStop stores holding PlayStation 4 launch events

More than 4,200 GameStop stores across the country will host midnight launch events for the PlayStation 4 this Thursday evening, the retailer announced today. Events will begin at 6 p.m. on November 14, with systems going on sale for customers beginning at 12:01 a.m. on November 15.

The PS4 remains sold out at GameStop, meaning only those who have reserved a unit will receive one at launch.

"Our knowledgeable associates and our unique trade programs make us the most convenient and affordable place to purchase everything that you need for a great gaming experience," SVP of merchandising at GameStop Bob Puzon said.

Yesterday, November 10, GameStop held special PS4 pre-launch events across the country, where shoppers could receive up to 90 percent bonus trade-in credit when applied to purchasing a PS4.

The PS4 midnight launch events will feature contests and prizes, as well as live music and food trucks at participating locations. Select stores will also have PS4 demo kiosks available, allowing shoppers to play the PS4 before it is officially released.

Already available at GameStop locations across the country are copies of launch title Killzone: Shadow Fall, as well as various peripherals like DualShock 4 controllers, the PlayStation Camera, and the PS4 vertical stand, among others.

GameStop will hold similar midnight launch events for the Xbox One a week later on November 21, leading up to the system's release on November 22.

Everyone whos buying the new consoles Day 1 are either very stupid and impatient or smart and clever, i say smart and clever because im sure they will buy a few and wait til the stores are out of stock in the area then offer people the consoles they bought at a slightly higher price.

But seriously, if the current gen consoles launch was anything to go by with all the bugs and hardware issues that STILL are happening with the PS3s and 360s, (RROD, YLOD, etc.) wouldnt you think that people would learn....lol no, no one ever learns. I will not be getting EITHER of the new consoles until the lifespan on the current ones runs out, when they stop making new games for them, and the price wont be as ridiculous and all the issues are fixed. THERE WILL BE ISSUES, you can count on that.

I doubt there will be hardware issues with the PS4. Also I am relatively poor blue-collar worker that saved a little bit each month for the console. If you plan ahead (which I did), it is not hard to afford the PS4. It is a great value compared to a PC of similar specs, and given Sony's good track record with not having console malfunctions it might last me 6 or 7 years.

Why not get one ?

Also there was more than a month after the consoles were announced at E3 that they were available for pre-order. I pre ordered mine at Best Buy June 13th. When I walked in the store and ordered it, the person at the store had to run to the back to get the info slip; don't think anyone had asked about it before me. One of the perks of living in a small town.

And I dont know where you get your information from but Sonys track record with malfunctioning consoles is quite the opposite. Ive been through four PS3s, all had the YLOD, some even multiple times. I repair consoles ( not just PS3s) and i can tell you that your statement is inaccurate. Ive repaired hundreds of malfunctioned PS3s, Xboxs, Wiis.... Im not calling their consoles pieces of trash or anything like that, im just saying that like most products, they will have some sort of problem with them at some point. Ive seen every type of problem possible with these current consoles and while yes, they may have fixed some of the issues that plagued the current gen, it would be foolish to say that there wouldnt be ANY problems at all with the new consoles. Yeah some might not have any, but there WILL be other that are complete lemons.

Target has that buy 2 games get 1 free sale going on, but Killzone isn't released there untill Friday, so I think the day after I pick up the console I will head there to see if I can get that day. Will pick up Killzone, BF4 and AC4 there; if they don't have any games there (probably) I will just pick up KZ and a year PS Plus. Strapped for cash at the moment.

Also I have CoD Ghosts from gamefly down at my post office.

I'm not the biggest COD fan but I'll play it. Later my friend.

Its like buying a car, you could get a lemon or a car that never has a single problem. It also boils down to how people take care of their consoles, and judging from my experience repairing consoles, most people do not know how to properly take care of their consoles.

I'd love to have a PS4( always stuck with Playstation), but it just comes down to the fact that I dont want to end up with one of the consoles thats a lemon. With how much they are I just cant take the risk until the price drops.

What games are you getting with it on launch day? just curious.

I have read before that Sony's console fail rate is about 1/2 that of the Xbox; probably taken into account the early 360's rate of failure. Still though, Sony has a good track record. I know a few people that have the old fat 60 gig (i think) PS3's and they still are working.

@Garm31 That's a load of garbage! I have a well-paid career with my own home (all paid off, hence no mortgage, and my own car, all paid up-front). I could easily afford a top-end PC plus all the consoles but I don't. I have a non-gaming fairly cheap PC and I'm getting a PS4.

Why am I not buying a top-end PC gaming rig when I can afford to?...because its a complete waste of money for the graphical difference compared to a much cheaper PS4. Its got nothing to do with affordability, I have plenty of money because A: I earn a lot, and B: I actually look after my money and don't squander it by spend a grand more than is necessary.

My late grandfather had very little money until he changed from working in a factory to working in TV & radio broadcasting, and even when he went from earning very little money to earning tons of money, he never ever wasted it if he didn't need to, he always told me "money is very hard to earn but all too easy to spend, so you ALWAYS look after it carefully" (especially in a recession because you never know what the future holds).

I have a wonderful gaming PC, but this season I've decided to purchase a Wii U and PS4 for the hell of it. No launch games for me really. Knack, I suppose, but my other half wants NBA Live, so why not?

I like to cover all of the bases, and having multiple platforms is no exception.

There is very little gameplay of the launch games. Where the **** is the gameplay. I mean real HD gameplay and not the shoddy cam videos from E3 and Pax. They are hiding something.
