3dfx Hints at Rampage

The 3D video card will discuss its next-generation chipset behind closed doors at GDC.

The Voodoo4 and Voodoo5 boards haven't even arrived on store shelves, and 3dfx is already making noise about its next 3D graphics processor. It's code-named "Rampage," and after 12 months of rumors, 3dfx has finally officially recognized its existence. Even though the Rampage isn't expected until sometime in 2001, 3dfx will be giving registered developers a chance to take a look at some early specifications behind closed doors at GDC, which will be held in San Jose later this week.

At this point, little is known about the Rampage or when we'll start seeing boards equipped with this new processor. In the here and now, 3dfx is still adamant that shipments of its upcoming Voodoo4 and Voodoo5 are still on schedule. Expect to see those on your local store shelves sometime around April.
