3Dfx Beefs Up Marketing

New position will elevate the 3Dfx brand name among consumers.

3Dfx Interactive of San Jose, Calif., has announced the creation of a new position, senior vice president of marketing and sales, and has appointed the position to Alan Chaplin.

Chaplin's position integrates the sales, marketing, and developer relations departments and all will report to him.

"3Dfx Interactive has developed amazing products and technology and at the same time has created a tremendous consumer presence and brand," said Greg Ballard, president and chief executive officer, 3Dfx Interactive. "We are thrilled to have Alan Chaplin join us, bringing with him a consistent record of successful sales and marketing initiatives. Just as we have made a number of significant investments in next-generation products and future technologies, we expect Alan to lead us to a new level of marketing and consumer awareness."

Chaplin, who is new to the halls of 3Dfx, has over 16 years of sales, marketing, and merchandising experience in the interactive consumer software and hardware industry. He is a founding board and executive committee member of the Interactive Digital Software Association (IDSA) and is currently a chairman of the E3 conference program. Other gold stars on his resume include VP of sales at Crystal Dynamics and VP of sales and marketing for ASCII Entertainment.
