2021 Razzies: Robert Downey Jr., Glenn Close, And Kat Hudson Among Worst Performer Nominees

In case you didn't already know, 2020 was a pretty rough year for the movies.

The Golden Raspberry Awards has announced its 2020 nominees for "the worst the film industry had to offer" in a year that, let's face it, was pretty bad for filmmakers and audiences alike. While the dubious "awards" have been a Hollywood tradition since 1981 that have been increasingly criticized, this year's list demonstrates the parody accolade can also set its sights on particularly problematic productions.

For example, the recently released Music, directed by singer-songwriter Sia, is a film about a newly sober drug dealer who becomes the sole guardian of her half-sister, Music, a young autistic girl. The film received massive criticism for not casting an autistic actor in the role, which is one of several reasons why Music merited nominations for Worst Picture, Worst Director, Worst Actress, and Worst Supporting Actress.

Similarly, Netflix drama 365 Days received a total of six nominations--a movie that largely received negative reviews from critics, and that was widely criticized for its portrayal of sexual violence. Dolittle, the Robert Downey Jr. vehicle that served as a reboot of the Eddie Murphy films, was a more conventional many-people-didn't-like-it selection, which also received six nominations.

Murphy, whose Coming 2 America has had the best streaming debut of any film in 2021 so far, recently told comedian-podcaster Marc Maron on his podcast WTF with Marc Maron that the Razzies were a major catalyst for him stepping away from acting for many years. "I was making s***** movies… [So I thought], 'Maybe it's time to take a break." In 2010, Murphy "won" the Razzie for Worst Actor of the Decade, having starred in the Razzie-winning Norbit, The Adventures of Pluto Nash, and Meet Dave.
