Nominations are in for the 70th annual Emmy awards, set to air on September 17 on NBC. This year the competition is particularly fierce among the Outstanding Drama category, as five of the seven contenders have at least five nominations throughout all the categories. Comedy is no slouch either, with three shows of its own that each have five nominations.

In the drama category, Game of Thrones and Westworld are the clear frontrunners, with 22 and 21 nominations apiece, respectively. The Handmaid's Tale, This is Us, and The Crown each have multiple nominations of their own as well. The list is rounded out with The Americans and Stranger Things.

Now Playing: Westworld Season 3: The 6 Questions We Need Answers To

For Outstanding Comedy Series, Atlanta leads with 16 nominations in all. Black-ish, The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, Curb Your Enthusiasm, Glow, Barry, The Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt, and Silicon Valley are also nominated for the award.

Tracee Ellis Ross and Anthony Anderson from Black-ish are both up for leads in a comedy series. They'll have stiff competition of their own, though, with competitors like Rachel Brosnahan (Marvelous Mrs. Maisel), Donald Glover (Atlanta), and Bill Hader (Barry).

Similarly, Elisabeth Moss for Handsmaid's Tale and Evan Rachel Wood for Westworld are battling for the lead actress in a drama. Keri Russell was also nominated, so she's one to watch given this was the final season of The Americans.

Matthew Rhys was also nominated for his work on The Americans. His stiffest competition is Jason Bateman for Ozark, especially since each of the other nominees may split their votes with others on the same show: Sterling K. Brown and Milo Ventimiglia were both nominated for This is Us, and Jeffrey Wright and Ed Harris are both up for Westworld.
