Last week's 2015 Game Awards was a big success, according to show organizer and host Geoff Keighley.

He confirms in a new interview with Polygon that the two-hour broadcast netted 2.3 million viewers, which is about 20 percent better than last year. Expect for the show to return next year, too.

"With the growth this year and all the sponsor support, I feel pretty confident we will be back next December for The Game Awards 2016," he said, adding that the show likely broke even.

Keighley went on to say that this year's show successfully responded to feedback from last year in three key areas. "A tighter production technically, a shorter run time, and more on-stage awards," Keighley said. "The format feels good, and it's been nice to see the audience response--two solid years means we're on the right path."

Keighley added that he wanted to hold a competitive gaming tournament at this year's event but was not able to. "Next year will be about adding other elements around the show," Keighley said.

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt won the overall Game of the Year award during the event. There was also some big news announced during the show, including Psychonauts 2, an Xbox One version of Rocket League, and quite a few new gameplay trailers. Also during the broadcast, Keighley claimed Metal Gear Solid creator Hideo Kojima was advised by lawyers not to attend the show. As a result of his absence, actor Kiefer Sutherland accepted Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain's award for Best Action/Adventure Game.
