Ah not a great year of gaming in general if you look at GOTY. The battle should be between SoM and DA:i. The rest are just there because they needed to put more games in the category

I hope the Luigi Death Stare wins. It led to some of the funniest stuff this year.

by the way GOTY section should be called AAA game of the year like independents

Beyonetta 2 FTW, The Big N needs a win they haven't had one in quite some time.

I've been disappointed far too much this year. Just really ready to get to 2015 honestly

The "Five Syndrome" seriously hurts this list, resulting some deserving games not included and many games included simply as filler, not to mention many filler categories to unnecessarily buff the list up because gone are the years when GS used to choose 10 GOTY-worthy games and everything that accompanied them.

Yielding to "my opinion" impulse: Divinity Original Sin deserves GOTY nomination more than Mordor, because the latter -a great game- is an almost wholly unoriginal experience compared to the former. MCC for best remaster? filler. The Evil Within is flat-out better than Isolation and ACU combined. Ubisoft for best dev? a bad joke, Platinum for Beyonetta 2 or Larian for Divinity deserve the spot a ton more, and Monolith for Mordor is a bit questionable too. Ultra SF IV for best fighter? filler, same 5 year old (great game) with new characters and tweaks. Destiny and FC 4? popular games but not great ones. Combining racing/sports games? "Five Syndrome", leaving a worthy PES 2015 out cold. South Park? filler. Evolve for most anticipated? many games can take that spot with ease, MGS V, MK X and the division pop into mind. Games for Change??????!!!!!!!

Apparently, Gamespot is trying to make the choices more varied than worthy, which begs the question about who's responsible for this list? is it the WHOLE team or select few? because it's jarring to find games blasted in reviews only to be happily nominated here, and games praised yet hanging by a thread to the mysterious inner working of this list.

Almost forgot, "Best eSports Player"? Tearful Facepalm: Double Handed Edition...!

Assassin's Creed O_o ...... really GS.... you do know that this gives developers the green light to put out bs and not try. I GUESS ALL DEVELOPERS CAN GO THE MADDEN ROUTE OF THINKING NOW huh??? Disrespect!

Looking at this list I initially thought that based on the quality of the nominees they must be leaving out some "better" games. But I honestly can't think of anything I would add to this list. I haven't played many of these games, but my overall impression of them has been that outside of Bayonetta 2 most have major flaws.

platinum games and from software should be in the running for best developers of the year. ubisoft montreal needs to be removed immediately.

It's an outright shame that Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze is snubbed. It didn't even get a mention for its soundtrack (which I feel it should win without a second thought). It really is a shame how underrated that game is. It's my personal GotY (though there's still a month of 2014 to go, anything can happen), and it's one of the best platformers ever made. Gamespot, and a good number of other sites, definitely did not give it its due (especially considering the fawning over the pretty but ultimately uninspired Rayman Legends last year).

I don't expect many people to agree with me about DK being GotY. But gracious, when even its glorious soundtrack gets snubbed something is just wrong with this picture. This site could use Tom McShea right about now.

Good to see Never Alone on the list as Games for Change, I just completed it today. Needs a bit of polishing, but its a fantastic and very immersive game.

Dragon Age: Inquisition

dragon age 3 def gets my vote for goty & best rpg. best action game goes to alien, best shooter titanfall & best soundtrack destiny

Transistor had a great soundtrack; was a damn near perfect compliment to the game.

Dark Souls II is my game of the year.
