Definitely an improvement...

User Rating: 10 | ArmA II PC
A definite improvement over the ambitious first Armed Assault. It may very well be the most realistic and best first person military simulator to date. I bought the expansion that adds even more to it. Well worth the money. Massive environments based off of the campaign in Afghanistan. It is the closest thing to combat you would actually get to besides visiting Afghanistan as a Marine. The graphics are very well done, however you need a super computer to run it and get the full effect of the game. If you want tactical with real life ballistics and a thinking man's shooter than ARM A 2 is where it is at. You cannot run in like you own the place in this game. You have to be methodical and approach each engagement differently. Going prone will save your ass more than you think in this. The AI is at times a bit confused, but most of the time it is sharp as a blade. Vehicles add a whole other fun dynamic to epic large scale battles. Dog fighting in a fighter jet over a hundred tank battle is pretty awesome. Cockpits are detailed close to the real thing and vehicle damage is pretty realistic in itself. If you hit a chopper in the rear rotors it will stutter and stall out before going into a uncontrollable spin crashing into the ground. Environments are not totally destructible, but buildings will get leveled, walls will fall down, and tires will deflate or shred off the rim after being shot at. The first time I saw a chopper crash into a small village leveling the buildings it landed on was pretty impressive. I say this is a must buy for those who want a thinking man's FPS rather than a twitch shooter.
