The best iteration of the block breaker style arcade/PC games. A worthy addition for any fan of this style of game.

User Rating: 7.5 | Arkanoid NES
There have been many versions of the classic Block Breaker game over the years. From console to arcade to PC, this game has been reborn many times and has always been a fun and challenging way to spend a few hours. Arkanoid is the best evolution of these games.

The classic block breaker style game has a pattern of bricks/blocks at the top of the screen and a movable "paddle" at the bottom. The object is to bounce the moving ball in between the two without letting it go past the paddle and off the screen. As you hit the blocks, they disappear, allowing access to blocks that were unreachable before. The goal is to clear all blocks off the screen.

Arkanoid adds a great deal to this formula, allowing for an interesting powerup system from capsules that fall from some blocks. These can do anything from giving you lasers that can shoot the blocks to splitting the ball into three. You can even warp to a later stage. This is all in addition to much faster gameplay than in previous block breaker games.

Graphics and sound are about what could be expected from the release date. Nothing to write home about, but that's not why you play this type of game anyway.

All in all, this is a great way to spend a few hours and is the best and most challenging of the block breaker games.
