In Mercury, you control a piece of mercury by tilting a board. I know it sounds dumb, but it's not. I didn't want to get this game, but I had an extra forty bucks, so I decided to give it a try. I am not a big fan of puzzle games, but I was immediately attracted to Mercury. As soon as you start playing, you will most definitely love it. The game controls a lot like Monkey Ball. You use the analog stick to tilt the board and the buttons to zoom or change the camera angle. It controls smoothly and precise. The camera is at the right angle to catch all the action, as sometimes your blob of mercury will break up. Visually, the game is quite impressive. The blobs look great, and sometimes you can have a pretty huge environment to move around in. Once you are past the fairly difficult training world, the game eases up on you a little. Then it becomes quite difficult. I found myself restarting each level at least five times. It kinda reminds me of Stuntman, but it's still fun when you go back through it again. It appears to be a little short, but you will find yourself playing it again. The sound effects in the game are nicely done. The soundtrack fits in perfectly, even though it's a little repetitive. You may find your thumb floating towards the volume control to turn it up a little. All in all, the game is great. You may beat it quickly, but you will want to back through it again, even if you don't usually like replaying the same level. If you're like me (hates puzzle games), this is a great game to get you started into the genre. If you are already a fan of the puzzle genre, this might be the best forty dollars you ever spend.
