Although good characters and storyline makes this Arc the Lad good lack of special effects make it bland at times.

User Rating: 8.6 | Arc: Twilight of the Spirits PS2
Twilight of Spirits is the first Arc the Lad to arrive on the Playstation 2, it is a strategy RPG that works similar to many but also at the same time somewhat different. You play 2 different sides and views of the game, one side "The Humans" you play as Kharg a very highly respected person who wants to prove himself and protect the ones he loves from all threats. The other side "The Deimos" allows you to play as Darc a half human and half deimos who is constantly put down and beaten for his heritage and often called a "Deimos Wannabe" he strives for power and wishes to unite the Deimos under his rule with it. Both of these 2 share a unique birthmark on their left arm that when they are nervous or unsure they find themselves touching it, you play as both switching off back and forth during various points in the storyline as it progresses.

As you venture on doing various tasks as Kharg you eventually find yourself dragged into political affairs of the World Alliance by a girl you saved and she reveals to you an evil plot that is begining to unfold. A army called Dilzweld if fighting against the political World Alliance yet due to their peaceful ways they do nothing but argue what they should do so Kharg takes it as his own responsibility to protect the ones he loves and the rest of humanity in stopping Dilzwelds evil plan. Darc also meets with this girl eventually and also finds out what is going on and many times in his search for power to unite the deimos under his rule he battles against the plotting Dilzweld army and foil many of there schemes.

Most games follow one storyline to keep you sucked into the game and make you get a feel and like your characters so that you enjoy playing the game that much more, however some games don't, some instead branch off into 2 or more storylines that are connecting this is not an easy task to pull off although to simply put it Twilight of Spirits accomplishes this task. In Twilight of Spirits you can get a good feel for both very well connected storylines and you can grow attached to not only both main characters but also the various other allys that help you in your journeys. The storyline although can be predictable at times is very well thought out and makes for a great game that you will enjoy for hours on end.

The Gameplay is strategic, you use your various characters on a non-grid based battlefield fighting the opposing forces with various spells, abilities, and cooperative attacks. Most strategy games use the grid system where you move on a grid map that allows you to plan out your attack strategy although Twilight of Spirits doesn't use this they let you move in every which direction and let you attack in every direction as well useing different attack ranges and widths so you can at times attack multiple enemies with your basic or special attacks. This system although in my opinion is not as good it gives a good change from the usual grid-based combat that strat RPG players are used to and in that makes the game alot more fun.

Music and sound effects in Twilight of Spirits is what you would assume of most games nothing amazing but it keeps the tone of the game well although there is no voice acting but that is not that bad of a thing. Graphically the game is unimpressing although it is not bad mind you the special moves or any moves in general are fairly bland and nothing impressive. It doesn't take away from the game at all but equally it doesn't add to it which some games require and others don't. I would rate Arc the Lad: Twilight of Spirits a 8.6 out of 10 for its great characters and fun interesting storyline. This is a strategy RPG for anyone looking for a fun cheap game that will keep you very entertained while it lasts, if that sounds like fun to you i would suggest picking it up i for one do not regret doing so.
