Who's coming back to finish the fight?
The latest trailer for Avengers: Endgame has arrived, and we now know a few more people that are for sure in the upcoming movie. Fans of the MCU got to see their favorite heroes go through plenty of changes since Infinity War, including a few hairstyle changes for a couple of the Avengers.
The universe may have been literally cut in half thanks to Thanos and the Infinity Gauntlet at the end of Avengers: Infinity War, but there are still plenty of heroes in the MCU to continue the fight in Avengers: Endgame--at least, we certainly hope. From Captain Marvel's long awaited arrival to the small group of Snap-surviving Avengers, Endgame's roster of confirmed characters is composed of some of Marvel's most tenacious characters, which is a good thing considering what they're going up against.
Besides the obvious familiar faces we've spotted in trailers and promotional images, we've also taken the time to gather up some of the most likely returns (yes, even characters who "died" have a chance to come back--this is a superhero story after all). Some may be more far fetched than others, but we're nothing if not full of hope. And anxiety--lots and lots of anxiety.
Thankfully, the wait for Endgame is nearly over--April 26 is just around the corner--so take a moment to brush up on who's who in the massive cast. For more on Avengers: Endgame, check out the latest poster, the breakdown of the second trailer, and all of Captain Marvel's Easter eggs.
1. Iron Man
In case it wasn't already exceedingly obvious from the first Endgame trailer's bleak narration, Tony Stark is definitely going to be in this movie. Of course, given how dire his situation seems to be, we can't say for sure just how long he's going to be around (sorry) or what his exact effect on the plot will be, but, well, he's here. For now. Stuck in space, being sad. We're definitely not panicking about it. Nope, not at all.
2. Captain America
From the narrator of trailer number one to the narrator of trailer number two, Steve Rogers is absolutely going to be in Endgame, resolutely not moving on from the horrors of the Avengers' defeat in Infinity War. Steve is admittedly in a less obviously bad situation than Tony, seeing that he's on Earth and not wasting away out in space, but we're just as nervous about his survival prospects. Look, if there's going to be a big heroic death by the end of this movie, it's pretty much a coin toss between Steve and Tony.
3. Black Widow
We've seen Nat in both trailers released so far, sporting a slightly updated take on her Infinity War look--though her blonde hair is showing some pretty major red roots. Natasha is absolutely going to be a major player for Endgame--and she's probably relatively safe, all things considered, at least with all the talk of her solo film still happening.
4. Thor
Beyond knowing that Thor is definitely going to be in Endgame in one capacity or another, we're not actually too certain what he's going to be doing--probably feeling guilty about not killing Thanos when he had the chance, if we had to guess. It's also important to remember that Thor does still have Stormbreaker, his new ax, which, in theory, still has the ability to summon the Bifrost and teleport him (and others) off the planet.
5. Hawkeye (er, Ronin)
Clint Barton is back after a prolonged Infinity War absence, this time as Ronin, rather than his traditional Hawkeye. We saw it in the first trailer, but we unfortunately don't know much else. What inspired him to change his look? What is he doing in Tokyo? Why wasn't he there when Thanos attacked Wakanda?
6. Hulk
The story of Hulk and Bruce Banner has been escalating in weirdness ever since Thor: Ragnarok, and it's just going to keep right on going for Endgame. We know Bruce survived the Snap and we've seen him in the trailers. But we've also got an interesting look at a new Hulk design and costume thanks to the official Endgame art released earlier this month.
7. Nebula
Next to Tony, Nebula was the only other person on Titan to survive the Snap and is currently with him on the Benatar, as we've seen in the second trailer. That's about as much as we know about what she's up to, though, so your guess is as good as ours.
8. Rocket
We know Rocket survived the Snap on Earth, and we know based on his brief appearance in the trailers that he's likely still there--unless he's found a way to get to some alien planet that still conveniently uses human-made lobster traps--but we don't have any idea what his plans could be.
9. Ant-Man
If you're confused about how Scott Lang managed to get out of his predicament at the end of Ant-Man & The Wasp, you're not alone. But his major feature in the first Endgame trailer assures us that he most definitely did. He's in this movie, and is probably going to play a key part in figuring out how to undo the Snap thanks to his Quantum Realm experience. We just don't know how yet.
10. War Machine
We know Rhodey survived the Snap, but we haven't seen much of him in the trailers just yet. He's definitely around, and he'll definitely be in the movie, but we have no idea what exactly he's up to or what his plans are with the rest of the team.
11. Thanos
You can't have a movie about defeating Thanos without, well, Thanos. We haven't actually seen him in any of the trailers yet, but rest assured that he's going to be around in one capacity or another, even if his Black Order didn't make it out of Infinity War at all. It'll be interesting to see how the Avengers take on a villain who has already gotten everything he wants and has no more maniacal plans to chase after.
12. Captain Marvel
Carol Danvers hasn't officially been confirmed for Endgame, but c'mon. Of course she's going to be in it. You don't get a post-credits stinger like the one we got from Infinity War without paying it off in a major way. Captain Marvel has been being built up as the key to beating Thanos and we can't wait to see how that pans out.
13. Okoye (We hope)
We know Okoye survived the snap when she watched T'Challa turn to dust before her eyes, but we have no idea what she's been doing since or what the current state of Wakanda may be. Chances are, as the general of the Dora Milaje, she's got her hands full trying to keep her country in one piece, so whether or not that's something that gets featured in Endgame is anyone's guess--we certainly hope it is, though.
14. Pepper Potts (Probably)
Pepper's role in Endgame is another interesting case. We don't technically know that she survived the Snap, but there's been a ton of speculation, and some dubious leaked set photos featuring Gwyneth Paltrow in what looks like an Iron Man style armor all her own, leading fans to guess she's going to be suiting up as Rescue, a comic book callback to Pepper's very own specially designed armor.
15. Spider-Man (Probably)
Look, we've all seen the trailers for Spider-Man: Far From Home. Conspiracy theories about alternate realities or new timelines notwithstanding, it's pretty likely that Peter Parker comes back to life and walks away from this one just fine.
16. Valkyrie (Maybe)
We're getting into the rumor territory here, but back when Infinity War and Endgame were shooting back to back, fans spotted Tessa Thompson filming in her Valkyrie regalia alongside Chris Hemsworth in Scotland. Since we didn't see these scenes in Infinity War, it's pretty safe to guess they're going to be showing up in Endgame--at least, we hope. There's also the chance that they may have just been cut. But how cool would it be to have Valkyrie come to Earth?
17. Bucky Barnes (Maybe)
There are plenty of rumors circulating about a potential Winter Soldier and Falcon show for Disney+, which is just one of the reasons we expect the decidedly dusted Bucky Barnes to show back up in Endgame. The other is a tease actor Sebastian Stan dropped prior to the release of Infinity War where he spoke about filming a scene with people like Michael Douglas, which definitely didn't happen in Infinity War--so we're hoping for Endgame.
18. Falcon (Maybe)
Poor dusted Sam Wilson is in the same situation as Bucky for this one--the rumors of a Disney+ show make his odds of returning pretty good, and we certainly hope he comes back by the end of Endgame, but we can't be certain yet.
19. Hank Pym (Maybe)
Thanks to Sebastian Stan's potential slip of the tongue, we know that Michael Douglas at least filmed a scene as Hank Pym during the Infinity War/Endgame shooting--but that's not a total confirmation just yet.
19. Janet Van Dyne (Maybe)
Stan's comment also specifically included Michelle Pfeiffer in the ensemble scene, which hopefully means we're looking at a return for the original wasp.
20. Hope Van Dyne (Maybe)
It'd be pretty hard to believe that Scott Lang returned from the Quantum Realm and then didn't immediately try and figure out a way to get Hope back--that, and she, Hank, and Jan all disappeared in the same place at the same time in the post-credits sequence of Ant-Man and the Wasp, so we're going to assume that if they're both back, she'll come back too. Hopefully.
21. Nick Fury (Maybe)
There's not a ton of evidence pointing to Fury's return after he was dusted during the Infinity War post credits scene, but we're going to hold out hope--if only because it seems likely that Carol would want to get her friend back after getting called to Earth from his cool
22. Shuri (Maybe)
Eagle eyed fans were able to spot Shuri listed as among the "missing" during the first Endgame trailer--but this doesn't necessarily mean she's been dusted. It's unlikely, but possible, that she's just caught in the chaos and still active in or around Wakanda.
23. Wanda (Hard maybe)
It'd be hard to name a character who had a more traumatic go of things in Infinity War than poor Wanda Maximoff, which only makes us want her to get a triumphant (and hopefully happy) return even more. This, coupled with the rumors of a Disney+ show about her and Vision, make for a possible Endgame appearance.
24. Vision (Harder maybe)
Like Wanda, Vision's life in Infinity War was pretty rough--but unlike Wanda, he actually "died" before the Snap, making his return even less likely. Still, that Disney+ show is supposed to be about both of them, so maybe he'll recover. Stranger things have happened.
25. Loki (Hardest maybe)
Loki is probably really dead--even more dead than Vision, honestly--but, hey, he's also apparently getting a Disney+ show, so who knows? We wouldn't bet on this return, but we'd definitely welcome it.
